Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt hopes to join Catalan giants Barcelona in the summer, according to Pol Lionch of Willem II. The Dutch starlet has long been linked with a move to Barcelona, where he would apparently take the place of Samuel Umtiti in the back-line, and there has been talk of a summer switch for around the £75m mark.
Lionch says he spoke to the youngster when the two sides met and claims the 19-year-old told him he hopes to go to Barca in the summer. When asked about De Ligt’s transfer plans, Llonch told Sport: “I don’t know if they’ve signed him or not! I don’t think so.

“I asked him directly if he would end up signing for Barca and he told me that he hoped so, but that he didn’t know anything at the moment. “He’s even younger than De Jong (Who will definitely join Barca in the summer) at only 19 years old but is physically strong and defensively sound. It’s difficult to get past him.
He’s well organised and always manages to cut out passes. “He’s a special character. To be the captain of Ajax at just 19 makes him a different player and I also think he could adapt well at Barça. It’s true he might need to improve when it comes to playing out from the back to truly excel at Barça but I think he’ll pick that up really quickly.”
