Nigeria goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was voted man in Kaizer Chiefs’ 1-0 win against Baroka FC in their Absa Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg on Saturday night, reports Completesports.com.
Akpeyi replaced injured Bafana Bafana of South Africa goalie, Itumeleng Khune on 26 minutes.
The 33-year-old announced his arrival in fine style two minutes later with a point-blank save from Richard Mbulu’s diving header.
Akpeyi was forced into a couple saves from point blank range, but the former Warri Wolves shot-stopper weren’t troubled handling situation effectively instead.
The game was his fifth league appearance for Ernst Middendorp’s men this season.
Lebogang Manyama’s first half strike was enough to hand Kaizer Chiefs all three points in the game.

You guys have started again. We will not be deceived again we are wiser now
i dont like this reporter adeboy amosun.
Congratulation to him. But, he should please stay away from Super Eagle
Even let him score as a keeper me think he as used all his lifeline playing for Nigeria.akpeyi abeg stop wasting ur hard earned money Tru given of cash to these journalist .we don’t want you again . Abi na by force. Enough of your textbooks mistakes . If u happen to be the only keeper in the world we still don’t want you.
Sometimes, people need serious competition or being dropped to up their game. Perhaps being ignored by Rohr and the fact SA favorite boy, Khune is back as Kaizer Chief’s number 1 are combining to make Akpeyi raise his game. That’s healthy for him and Nigeria. Semi Ajayi that was previously dropped is back now as an integral member of the team. It seems it’s only on Iheanacho that cycle is not having an effect. Akpeyi is still a part of the SE, especially now that Ezenwa’s inclusion is starting to look suspect/questionable.
My brother, the guy has always been decent.
Shame Super Eagles fans choose to only see his weaknesses (which all goalkeepers are not immuned against).
Lets stop hating please. Whether he plays for national team or not is not the issue. He was fantastic yesterday. And won Man of the match in his club. Even Super sport highlight showed it over and over again.
Nobody is saying he should be recalled to the national team, but as long as he is still a Super Eagles player, if he does well, it should be reported. Even Ideye scored and Ujah got a brace for their clubs which was rightly reported in the news.
Congrats Akpeyi, keep making Nigeria proud.
What a contribution!
Thanks Bro.
The other week, I was celebrating Sylvester Igboun’s goal in Russia when someone said to me that he should not be invited to the Super Eagles.
I said: ‘the world of Nigeria’s does not revolve around the Super Eagles’.
True fans track, monitor and celebrate the exploits of Nigerian players whether or not they play for the national team.
Well done Akpeyi, your quality has never been in doubt. Shame fans just choose to focus on your foibles.
Controversial Akpeyi!
Very committed professional who gives everything but makes costly mistakes every now and again, yet a very decent goalminder.
Apparently, remembered for his goalkeeping error more than his goalkeeping prowess.I like this lad for his humility, his relentless efforts to keep going despite all the venoms from fans at home and abroad.
Bless you brother,I feel your pain but God is your strength.
Whether you are recalled to the super eagles or not you shall be remembered as a former international who served his country with passion even though this is seen differently by demanding fans.Only Rohr has that decision to make.If he invites you we support you but if he doesn’t we also wish you well in your club career and beyond.
All the best Daniel Akpeyi a Nigerian ambassador in zenophobic South Africa.
Keep the Nigerian flag flying.
Abeg oo, Fine…Akpeyi Well done but this news should in no way! in no way! fuel people clamouring that he should be re-called. We’ve had enough of him over the years. We’ve moved on very well without him. I mentioned Ezenwa as a potential drop for our subsequent matches cuz he’s not proving to be an Eagles material but even if Ezenwa will be dropped we have better options scattered home and abroad. No to Akpeyi now and never!
Akpeyesque by nature. Absent minded and prone to error. The only mistake he has not yet made is to throw the ball into his own net! Glad to hear he did well. Hopefully, he will continue to do well. Personally though, I need to see monumental improvement from him before I can ever be comfortable seeing him again in goal for Nigeria.
