Akpeyi Returns, In Goal For Eagles Vs Benin; Ajayi, Aribo Also Start

Daniel Akpeyi will make his first appearance for the Super Eagles since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in today’s (Wednesday) clash against the Squirrels of Benin at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, reports Completesports.com.

Akpeyi, who was not called up for the Super Eagles’ last two friendlies against Ukraine and Brazil got the nod ahead of Maduka Okoye and Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

In defence, head coach of the team, Gernot Rohr has kept faith with the duo of William Troost-Ekong and Semi Ajayi. Jamilu Collins and Ola Aina will man the left and right-back positions respectively.

The trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Joe Aribo and Alex Iwobi will operate from the midfield.

Lille forward Victor Osimhen will lead the attack and will be flanked by Moses Simon and Samuel Chukuweze.

The game will kick-off at 5pm.

Great List. These boys should do the job without stress.
But I was expecting Samuel Kalu to start ahead Moses Simon. All the same wishing the Super Eagles all the best

Aribo doing well at Rangers, all the best to the eagles

Rohr is in love with Moses Simon understandably so because of his work rate and defensive discipline. A lot of people may criticize the gaffer for always keeping faith with Simon, but it appears that he (Simon) is a player that plays to the coach’s instructions. There was a player like that in the past who was always criticized by fans and pundits but always got picked by successive coaches because he played to their instructions. That was Garba Lawal. Wish the boys a successful match.

This is ridiculous that completesports cant even give us a simple match blog.  None of the usual links are working for me either. Nothing ever works when it comes to the name Nigeria smh.

  • Completesports is a sham!!! They know that DSTV will not show the match, but their lazy reporters can’t even be at the Uyo stadium to give us a simple match blog update! Shame! Shame! Shame!

You can watch the match on NTA Live/News 24

  • Sunnyb 4 years ago

Why are these boys playing like this, especially Iwobi, our midfield is dead without etebo, Benin controlling the midfield.

  • Paschal 4 years ago

YOU CAN WATCH THE MATCH ON AIT — DSTV Channel 253. THOUGH THE PICTURE QUALITY AND POSITION OF THEIR CAMERAS ARE VERY FUNNY INDEED. TUNE IN FIRST AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN.

  • O Best 4 years ago

Pls who is  this NTA cameraman?8

  • It’s 1:1 at halftime… Osimhen scores a penalty in the dying minutes of the half…. 2nd half loading

  • Paschal 4 years ago

Seems like NTA is using only one camera to record the entire match and that single camera seems to be positioned at the sideline (throw in) area of the pitch. The pictures look like some 1970 football match. So if Supersport doesnt beam a live match for us, this is all we should expect? This must be a joke indeed.

  • Sunnyb 4 years ago

Even bein sport Africa is not clear I think NTA is using Android phone what a joke as a country.

Good luck to Super Eagles. I can’t waste my time on Mr. Rohr’s team. Seeing Akpeyi in goal post today is so embarrassing.

That means our coaching staff are not good at all. Benching Okoye for Akpeyi is meaningless and I have no hope in coach’s team.

We shouldn’t be carried away that we are playing Benin because they might be tactically sound then us.

Good luck Eagles. God bless Nigeria!!!

Fair game by SE but I believe this pitch is simply not good enough

    • Is this the best we can offer in this country? OMG!

  • Paschal 4 years ago

Goal. Kalu scores. Its 2 goals now. But no replay of the goal. Once you take your eyes off the game then thats all you cant see the goal hahahaha.

  • Lord AMO 4 years ago

Benin hits the bar with a shot from 10 yards out. Still 2-1 Eagles wth just about 15 minutes left

NTA has just exposed the whole of Nigeria Shame on Nigeria I couldn’t watch the match coz it will be a waste of time. Nobody should expect to watch Lesotho match because Caf has displayed their incompetence by not replacing before dismissing their former media partner. Naija Backwards Africa Backwards!

    • Samchi 4 years ago

There is no such thing as disgrace, it’s CAF who is to be blamed for terminating a contract awarded for viewing rites without finding a replacement, it would affect virtually every other country in the continent not only Nigeria. Imagine even life scores couldn’t release a complete line up cos they too are in the dark.

      • Chima E Samuels 4 years ago

The point is obvious that DSTV has been doing a better job that is why Nigerians outside never realized that NTA is still Shambolic! It’s not everything we need to argue here go on Twitter or am I the only who thinks #ShameOnNTA go and check before you come and defend mediocrity!
