The 33-year-old linked up with Chippa United from Warri Wolves in 2015 after impressing in a friendly encounter between Nigeria and South Africa.

The experienced goalie later moved to Kaizer Chiefs in 2018 following injury to Itumeleng Khune and is now the Amakhosi’s first choice.

Akpeyi, who recently signed a new two-year deal with the club, will now be registered as a South African in the PSL which will allow Kaizer Chiefs sign another foreign player.

Very interesting. Let’s see if Uzoho will outsmart Akpeyi when he’s between the sticks for S A.

. . . the rejected stone that becomes the headstone in another house!

  • Why this guy wants to be a citizen of a xenophobic country? It’s not everything about the money, you got to have principle.

Are you for real?what has money or principles got to do with someone rightfully acquiring citizenship of a country where he and his family are resident for a while now?or do you think returning back to Nigeria is any safer for Akpeyi and his family?principles are your values your beliefs and it varies with individuals sometimes,it helps individual to know what is right and not and can influence your actions by making decisions on what you think is right,so if Akpeyi obtains citizenship in South Africa that is his decision his choice.

Hello guys, please disregard this fake story, it is just a figment of this writer’s imagination. He just wants to be sensational but definitely a false news. I am based in SA and Akpeyi has. not met the requirement for Citizenship application criteria.
In SA, you only qualify for Permanent Resident permit after 5 years of residing in the country with a valid work permit, thereafter you will qualify for citizenship after a further 5 years of being a Permanent Resident permit holder. So he will only qualify for PR and can apply for a South African foreign ID for now

  • thank God, he has be mulling for south africa national team. he will be bafana bafana no1 keeper.
thats why he conspired with south africa to beat us 2:0 in uyo. and take revenge for south africa, when we eliminate them from afcon.
    akpeyi dream come true.

  • Edoman 4 years ago

He can not play for South Africa after he has done so for Nigeria at various International levels. Otherwise, he is free to do whatever he wants to do with his life.
