Serie A club Udinese have reached a verbal agreement with free-agent defender David Alaba.
This is according to exclusive reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (Business Upturn).
If the deal goes through, Alaba will become teammate with Nigeria international Maduka Okoye, who is the first choice at Udinese.
The former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich star, a versatile Austrian international, is described as a dream signing for the Italian club. Formal steps remain before the deal is fully completed and Romano can issue his trademark “Here We Go.”
Alaba became a free agent on 1 July 2026 after Real Madrid chose not to renew his contract at the end of the 2025-26 season. The 34-year-old centre-back and left-back spent five years at the Bernabéu, winning two La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies during his time in Spain.
Injury problems limited his appearances in recent seasons, but Alaba remained an important figure for the Austria national team. He captained his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and continues to feature regularly for the ÖFB.
Since leaving Real Madrid, Alaba has been linked with clubs across Europe, the MLS and Mexico, including interest from sides in Serie A, the Bundesliga and Liga MX.

His father and adviser George Alaba recently confirmed that multiple enquiries had been received and that a decision on the next step would come soon.
For Udinese, securing a player of Alaba’s pedigree on a free transfer would represent a major coup.
The Friuli club have started the 2026-27 Serie A season in the lower half of the table and could benefit from the experience and leadership of a four-time Champions League winner who can operate across the back line and in midfield.
Alaba’s ability to play as a centre-back, left-back or even in central midfield offers tactical flexibility that many mid-table Serie A sides value highly.
