Former Bolton Wanderers and Everton manager Sam Allardyce thinks that Raheem Sterling made a mistake going to Arsenal this season.
Sterling has had a forgettable loan spell at Arsenal, failing to score in 16 Premier League outings, recording two assists.
Also, in 26 appearances across all competitions for the Gunners, the 30-year-old only managed one goal and provided four assists.
Speaking on the move, Allardyce posited that the Chelsea loanee should have joined a lesser club where he would play regularly.
“The thing with Raheem is that he would’ve been better going to a lesser club and playing every week rather than going to Arsenal, who are a bit bigger than Chelsea,” Allardyce was quoted on Arsenal News Channel.
“His chances of getting into the Arsenal team, for me, were less than the chances of getting in the Chelsea side.
“Obviously Mikel Arteta must have told him or convinced him that ‘you’re coming in as a squad player’ and he was happy with that.

“If I were him, I’d have gone to a team where I would be playing every week and be scoring and be the leading goalscorer this year. That would evolve into a permanent move to the club.”
During his time at Manchester City Sterling won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup and five League Cups.
He was also part of the City side that lost 1-0 to Chelsea in the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League final.
After seven years at City, he joined Chelsea on 13 July 2022 on a five-year contract worth £47.5 million.
He has netted 14 goals in 59 matches for the blues before joining their London rivals Arsenal on loan.
