Amuneke: How Super Eagles Can Win 2022 AFCON Title

Former Super Eagles winger Emmanuel Amuneke says the team can win a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title in Cameroon, reports Completesports.com.

Gernot Rohr’s charges are among the 24 countries that will compete for the coveted title in the competition.

The Super Eagles last won the AFCON title in South Africa 2013.

“To win the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) is not a tea party. It requires proper planning which include adequate preparations by the Super Eagles. The football house must provide the team with the enabling environment to achieve the set goals,” Amuneke told Ifeanyi Udeze Diary on Brila FM.

“Team selection is also key to optimal performance of the Super Eagles so I expect the handlers to pick the team on merit. I have no doubt in my mind that Nigeria can win it in Cameroon if the right thing is done.”

Amuneke also warned that the Super Eagles must work hard to claim the title as they can’t achieve that through wishful thinking.

According to him: “I laugh whenever people are saying we (Nigeria) will go to Cameroon next year to lift the trophy. We cannot win if we fail to prepare adequately. Every country in Africa today wants to win AFCON trophy. They have players who have been exposed like Nigeria so they want to win too”.

Thank you Mr. Amunike. You said it well.

This is the reasons why am blaming NFF and the coaches.

You have highlighted the weaknesses of the Super Eagles and problems because you bn in the system before and you comprehend how the system works.

The selections, tactics and late subs of the coaching crew should be somethings Nigerians should be more concerned about as we are heading to a new year.

You said everything so well. NFF lied that they have paid the players but one of the players debunked the news. He said the money has not yet bn paid into their accounts.

So, who is lying between NFF president and the players? Well, I don’t know.

The well being of the Super Eagles is very important before we will be thinking of winning the Afcon trophy.

If NFF are doing everything right and we don’t see any improvement then we can hold the coaches accountable for their deeds.

I am very happy that NFF have no where to hide this time around. They are getting more sponsors day in day out and they can’t say that they don’t have money to pay our players.

Apart from owing Super Eagles money, do we a team for the Afcon tournament or individual players?

I mentioned this few days ago and am happy that coach Amunike also said something about the selections of the Super Eagles.

A team that struggling to have a no1 goalie, freekick specialists and a good midfielders conbo to supply our attackers ball in the front?

I know we hate the truth but I have no choice, I have to keep telling those in charge of our football, NFF and coaches to please to do more. We are not yet there.

What is the point of having players and we fail to win the Afcon trophy for the second time in a row?

The team we have now is better than the Keshi’ team that won the continental trophy in 2013.

Keshi team was not good enough to win that tournament but they had self determination and the team was focused enough to win the tournament. Plus, Keshi installed never say die Nigerian spirit into his team.

They said I hate, Keshi, did I hate Keshi because I wasn’t telling him the truth? Absolutely no.

What happened to his team in the end?

Did I hate Siasia? No. I loved Siasia so much but I told him the bitter truth.

Did I hate Ighalo? No no. As a footballer, he did his best for Nigeria and he was lucky to achieve that height with Super Eagles. Unfortunately, Nigeria needed a sharp shooter in front of goal but we didn’t find that in Ighalo.

And when he has bn asked again to return to the Super Eagles, I advised him not to come back which he didn’t. Now, he earned his respect forever. Did I hate him no.

For that reasons, if we have to win the Afcon trophy in Cameroon, NFF, NFF president and the coaches have to work collectively hard to be able to accomplish that.

We have what it takes in terms of players but we don’t have what it takes in terms of coaching crew.

If anyone is in doubt, just wait, the time will tell if NFF failed to stiffens up the coaching department before the Afcon tournament.

If Oga Rohr and coach Agu are unreplaceable then, the coaching department have to be stronger than the current stage before heading to Cameroon. Thanks for seeing what am seeing coach Amunike.

I hate nobody. As long as Super Eagles is doing well, Am okay. As long as Super Eagles is doing well as a team, am satisfied. I wish Oga Rohr and the entire team the best. God bless Nigeria!!!
