ANSFA Celebrates Ralph George’s WAFCON 2024 Commentary Milestone
The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) is celebrating one of its own, Ralph Chidozie George, for his remarkable achievement of commentating at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
George, a board member and Chairman of ANSFA’s Media Committee, called four matches during the tournament—three Group C games and the Algeria vs Ghana quarter-final—marking a historic feat as the first Nigerian to serve as lead English commentator at a CAF tournament in recent years.
Iloenyosi Showers Praise On Veteran Broadcaster
Describing George as a passionate and dedicated football lover, ANSFA Chairman, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, lauded the SuperSport commentator for flying the state’s and Nigeria’s flag high.

“We at ANSFA are very proud of our board member and Chairman of our Media Committee for being selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and becoming the first lead commentator from Nigeria to call matches at any CAF tournament in recent times,” Iloenyosi (aka: General), a former Super Eagles defender, said.
“It is a great achievement, and we are extremely happy that one of our own made such history.”
A Trailblazer In Sports Commentary
Ralph Chidozie George, popularly known as RCG, is a veteran sports journalist with over 30 years’ experience across leading Nigerian radio stations including Radio Nigeria, Brila FM, and Cosmo FM.
While CAF has in the past appointed Nigerian ex-players as colour commentators, George was uniquely chosen for WAFCON 2024 as a lead English commentator, a testament to his expertise and professionalism.
“We commend CAF for recognising and picking one of the best on the continent,” Iloenyosi added.
