Anambra State Football Association, through its Chairman Chikelue Iloenyosi, has penned an emotional condolence message to the Principal, staff, management, and PTA of Tansi International College, Awka, over Saturday’s unfortunate death of three students of the school and injury to six others while playing football, Completesports.com reports.

On Saturday, 4 November 2023, three students of Tansi International College, an all-boys school owned by the Catholic Diocese of Awka, were struck in their teen prime by lightning while playing football on the school’s field.

Six others were injured by the lightning and hospitalised. The management of Tansi International College later announced on the school’s Facebook page on Tuesday, November 7, that the six hospitalised students had been discharged.

“I, on behalf of the executive board members of Anambra State Football Association and the entire football stakeholders and enthusiasts wish to condole with you and your school management over the unfortunate incident that took place on Saturday, 4th November 2023,” Iloenyosi began in the condolence message.

“We share with you this moment of grief, over the sudden demise of the promising students.

“It’s indeed a great loss to their immediate parents, families, the Tansi International College, Anambra State, and Nigeria in general.”

While ‘General’ Iloenyosi and his FA team have continued to preach the gospel of football development in the state for youths to discover their God-given talents and make a better living from it to help their families and the society as well as reducing crime in the state, the former U23 Olympic Eagles defender was saddened that death cut the dreams of the teenagers.

“We ask God to accept their souls in Heaven, give the school and families of the dead ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss”, the condolence message added.

“We also pray for a quick recovery for the hospitalised ones. We’ll continue to put your school and the management in our prayers, ” the FA boss concluded in the condolence message.

Playing football on school field and got struck by lightning. Is it a school or football academy? I’m asking because lightning mostly strikes on adverse weather conditions and students playing football on such weather conditions at school doesn’t make sense to me. The school should be investigated for mismanagement and improper handling of wards. This will not happen in a proper school, RIP to the young lads may God have mercy on Nigeria as a country because most of the reports are just depressing and disgusting that you don’t want to tune in except local news aside sports.
