Apugo Showers Encomium On Chukwueze After MOTM Award On Laliga Return

Samuel Chukwueze’s mentor Victor Apugo has poured encomium on the young star following his outstanding performance for Villarreal in their 1-0 win over Mallorca on Tuesday in the restarted La Liga season.

The Super Eagles forward dropped what was probably his best performance of the abridged campaign, setting up Carlos Bacca for the only goal of the match in the 16th minute and was rightfully rewarded with the Man-Of-Match gong as well as scooping the award of The Most Stylish Player of the Match.

“The award of The Most Stylish Player of the Match is for Samuel Chukwueze,” Villarreal announced on their official Twitter page.

Reacting to the double award for the former Golden Eaglet, Apugo, who is the President of Super Stars Football Academy, Uyo, congratulated Chukwueze and said his performance is not just a testament of his immense talent, but also his mental strength.

He said: “I’m really delighted for Sammy (Chukwueze) and I congratulate him for the awards.

“Like I’ve said before, he is an incredibly talented player but he’s also a tough kid. He has taken the challenge of playing at the highest level in his stride and right now what we’re seeing is how strong he is not just physically but also mentally. It is not easy to return after the long break due to the pandemic and still play this good, it shows he has the mental strength to get to the very top.”

Since the return of La Liga from the Covid-19 enforced hiatus, Chukwueze, who has three goals to his name in the league so far, has been one of the most important players for Villarreal. He also provided an assist in their 1-0 away win at Celta Vigo last Saturday.
