Arsenal Open Talks With Bayern Over January Transfer Deal For Boateng

Arsenal have reportedly opened talks with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich over the January transfer of Jerome Boateng as they shop for defensive reinforcements.

Calum Chambers will be out for up to six to nine months after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the game against Chelsea on Sunday.

RB Leipzig youngster Dayot Upamecano and Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti have been linked with a move to Arsenal.

But Sky Sports Germany claim Arsenal are now targeting Boateng as a cheaper alternative to strengthen their struggling back line.

The news outfit claim that the Gunners have already entered discussions with the Bayern, who are holding out for a £12.75million transfer fee in order to part with the 31-year-old.

Boateng who was a former Manchester City defender has made 15 appearances this season but found his place in the side under threat.

Amd following Chambers’ injury, Mikel Arteta confirmed his desire to strengthen but admitted it might be difficult to find the right signing.

“My obligation is to give my opinion on the things we can improve,” Arteta said after Arsenal’s win over Manchester United on Wednesday evening.

“Obviously we have a bad injury with Calum a few days ago that will change our plans at the back.

“The reality is we will not be able to do much. I’m more concerned about getting players back from injury and try to improve the players I have here, get everybody on board and understanding what we’re trying to do.

“And if something extra comes up and we think it is the right opportunity to improve what we have, then let’s do it.”

Also, Arsenal have been linked with a move for Thomas Lemar, who has struggled at Atletico Madrid since they beat Arsenal to his signature in 2018.

The club are keen to offload the midfielder to fund a move for a striker, but Tottenham have also been linked with a loan move.
