Nigeria won its protest for the disqualification of Favour Ashe in the men’s 100m at the African Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, Making of Champions reports.
On Tuesday, Ashe was disqualified in his first race of the championships for false start.
But Nigeria protested that Ashe’s disqualification was unjust, following the repeated malfunctioning of the starting gun in the 100m heats.

As a result, Ashe will now run alone in a solo race, which is going to determine if he would progress to the semi-finals.
The race is coming up later on Tuesday evening.
Also on Tuesday, Tobi Amusan clocked an unofficial 12.82s to win her 100mH race and lead the heats and Esther Okon featured in the women’s 400m finishing second in her heat to advance to the next round.
Also, Sikiru Adeyemi finished third in his 400m heat which was won by Kenyan national champion George Mutinda.
