Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane says Gareth Bale did not make the trip to Munich to face Tottenham because he was not fit enough. The Welshman missed the game against his former club, who won 1-0 courtesy of a goal scored by Harry Kane, but once again much of the talk after the game centred on Bale.

Real president Florentino Perez pulled the plug on a deal that would have seen him join Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning, and it was claimed Bale was not mentally right to travel. However Zidane, who was hoping he would move to China, says that is not the case, and the winger was left out the trip to Germany due to fitness issues.
“He didn’t travel because he wasn’t fit,” Zidane said after the game. “After speaking with the doctors, the best thing was for him to stay in Madrid. “He stayed back and is training there. It was a joint decision between the player, medical staff and the coach.”
