Balogun Set For Rangers Return

Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun is set for a surprise return to Scottish giants Rangers.

Rangers announced that centre-back Kid Leon had suffered a serious injury blow during their pre-season camp in Germany.

And with the Scotland Under-21 ace facing a “significant” lay-off, boss Michael Beale has turned to Balogun as he looks to beef up his rear-guard options.

Balogun played a significant role for Rangers as they lifted the Premiership title in 2021 and was also key as Gers went all the way to the final of the Europa League a year later under Gio van Bronckhorst.

The 35-year-old quit Ibrox that summer as he was reunited with Gerrard’s former No.2 Beale at QPR and is now set to follow his former Loftus Road boss back to Glasgow.

Now according to Record Sport Balogun – a free agent after the expiry of his one-year Rs deal – was back in the city yesterday for medical tests.

And he’s now set to rejoin his former side as he fills in for the stricken King. With the start of the Premiership season and Gers’ opening Champions League qualifier just three weeks away, Beale is keen to ensure he is not left short in defence.

Balogun is best SE defender yet I rarely see him starting a match for the Eagles is it Injury or poor form??? This is a brilliant move for his age.

  • Where is those people who think they know ball more than us???.. When we were telling them Balogun is the reason that Onyibo wall was formidable they were saying calamity ekong is the better. HmmmmmI hope say una don dey see am na.

So many guys on this page don’t know what they’re looking for in a player when they watch football no wonder they don’t understand anything about football. Balogun is miles ahead of Ekong. Balogun is way too technical and hardly puts a foot wrong. I feel more calm when we have him, he is full of intelligent play tidy in possession and above all he has a winning mentality. Ekong has a strange underdog mentality calamitous and average most times but I respect his dedication. But what Nigeria really needs is Tosin of Fulham!!!

Leon Balogun WAS the best back then but @35? We need frosh legs.

    Tosin Adarabioyo (Both Feet)
    Gabby Osho (Left)
    Jordan Torunarigha (Left)
    Emmanuel Aiwu (Right)
Caleb Okoli etc  should all Join Calvin Bassey and Probably Kevin Akpoguma and take over  from there

The likes of Omeruo should follow Balogun to retirement  (because to me, an old Balogun is better than him).

By now, Players like Semi Ajayi, Troost-Ekong should be used Sparingly ( on stand by for those listed above)

If we can’t rebuild now that we have the time, I wonder when we’ll have the chance..
Let’s balance our defense and concede less. Majority of the goals we conceded recently is either an error from the defenders or goalkeepers.

I might be wrong though, but, Kelvin Akpoguma is not yet integrated into super eagles. i’m not very confortable whenever he comes in to play…and my fear always come over me…the last match he did same thing…..back then, when i see our defense line up..BALOGUN, EKONG, AINA, SANUSI…I Worried less…since Balogun faded away from the team, our defense became very porous, easily over run by ANY opposition (any team we come across, always tear and turn our defender upside down)

Observed @TOD… which was why I used “Probably” but he was picking up before they got disgraced against Portugal.
With a good partner, may be he can pickup.
