Barcelona To Target New Right-Back

Barcelona are reportedly only targeting one new addition in 2020 as they seek a new right-back. Ernesto Valverde’s side are currently second in the table on 16 points, though they have lost two of their first eight matches of the season.

A late 1-0 loss at Athletic Bilbao in the first game meant they got off to a bad start, while they have also been beaten by surprise-package Granada.

The club have had injury concerns this season with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez missing several games so far as they have looked to bed in younger players.

New signing Frenkie de Jong has been starting games regularly in midfield, while 16-year-old Ansu Fati has been a revelation, scoring twice in six appearances.

Despite some of their problems coming to the surface in the early part of the season, reports suggest Barca are only looking to target a right-back in the new year.

Boss Valverde reportedly wants to start playing Sergi Roberto further forward which opens up the position.
Nelson Semedo is an option at right-back, though he has been playing at left-back for parts of this season, while youngster Junior Firpo is also in the running at left-back.

Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin is reportedly a target for them in January as they look to bring him back to the club he began his career at.

He was originally a youth player at Barca before moving to the Gunners in 2011 aged 16 and has gone on to make 183 appearances in all competitions.

His playing time has been limited recently after he suffered a knee ligament injury midway through last season, but he is now starting to return to matchday squads and has made appearances in the League Cup and Europa League this season.
