Spanish World Cup winner and Barcelona midfielder Gavi has snubbed a move to Manchester United, Mirror reports.
United boss Michael Carrick had targeted the 22-year-old in a bid to bolster his midfield options ahead of the new season. It’s understood United were willing to meet Barcelona’s £35m asking price.
But Gavi has made it clear he wants to remain with the Spanish champions – and has no interest in joining United. The news will come as a blow to United fans, who have become frustrated with United’s lack of serious transfer business this summer.
While some of their rivals have spent big on new signings, United have spent a combined £85m on Youri Tielemans and Chelsea reject Andrey Santos.
Gavi signed for Barca at the age of 11 and has gone on to make 119 league appearances since making his debut in 2021. He missed five months of last season due to a serious knee injury.
But regained his form and fitness in March to earn a place in the Spain squad for this summer’s World Cup.
He made two appearances during the tournament, and was an unused substitute in the final which saw Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in New York.

He is under contract at the Nou Camp until 2030, where boss Hansi Flick is reluctant to let him leave. Speaking about his relationship with the Barcelona boss at the end of last season, Gavi said: “I have suffered a lot, unfortunately, in these last two years. It’s football.
“Luckily, the coach trusts me a lot. He’s like a father to me. I am very grateful to him. It’s not easy to get to play after this injury. He knows about my talent and mentality and that it’s important for the team. He blindly trusts me.”
Gavi’s desire to stay in Spain will force United to look elsewhere in Carrick’s bid to sign a third midfielder this summer, albeit the clock is now ticking.
Away from their midfield, United’s only other business saw them move for goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer. The Red Devils have also said farewell to a number of stars including Rasums Hojlund and Casemiro, while goalkeepers Radek Vitek and Altay Bayindir have both departed.
