Barcelona Target Chukwueze As Alternative To Neymar

Barcelona Target Chukwueze As Alternative To Neymar

Spanish giants, Barcelona are considering a move for talented Nigeria winger Samuel Chukwueze, reports Completesports.com.

Barcelona sees Chukwueze as an ideal and a cheaper alternative to PSG forward Neymar who they failed to lure back to the Camp Nou this summer.

Chukuweze has scored 10 goals and recorded five assists in 45 appearances since breaking into Villarreal’s first team last season.

“The big obstacle to hiring Chukuwueze is the price of the deal which can go as high as €63m,” reads a report in Gol Digital.

“The situation of Ousmane Dembele remains unimproved compared to last season. The injuries return and Barcelona are running out of patience.”

Premier League clubs, Liverpool and Leicester City are also interested in signing the 20-year-old.

Samuel plays in same position as Lionel Messi. So in this situation,is it a wise decision for our Samuel moving to the Catalan?what are the consequences?it doesn’t look like the clubs untouchable is retiring any time soon nor has he got plans of leaving the club in the immediate future. So a cause for worry for the dashing flamboyant Nigerian winger, who should look before he leap.
Having said that,Messi can play in the midfield as well. However, given an option of the Premiership and Laliga to choose from i would rather he remains in Spain.
A move to either Madrid or Barcelona will definitely improve his game and his ambitions to become a world class player. You could image what that will mean for the super eagles.
All the best young lad,we the super eagles fans are behind you in prayers.I would pick Madrid if i were you.I think you are guaranteed more game time there than Barcelona, should both teams declare their interests.

I would love to see Chuks in the Barca or Real Madrid jersey! What I don’t need is part 2 of Iheanacho or Isaac Success. Make em no go languish for bench in either of those two clubs. If he can come in as a sub regularly, or start at least one in three games regularly, I would be ok. But BENCH TILL FURTHER NOTICE….mbanu.

I think Chuzee will get lots of playing time at Barca. The reasons are (1) Barca is starting to build a new generation (2) Messi now play more through the middle, reason Coutinho wasnt needed,(3) Dembele playing from d left wing seem to be injury prone. Chuzee is now ripe for d big stage, so though I will prefer Barca, any of these these four clubs should be his next destination, Barca, real Madrid ,PSG n Dortmund. NEVER ENGLAND EXCEPT WHEN HE IS RETIRING.

          Have to concur with @Glory.

I think in the present time Samu would fit in well at Barca..If the rumours are true( we don’t know these days); I think he should take the bold step to further his career.
I think Chukwueze is growing into the game, his maturity is beginning to show. I noticed his selfish tendency the with the ball that was shown in the match against Ukraine was totally reduced against Brazil. He played a team game against the latter. And such is seen in his play these days in the Villareal shirt,he is now playing for the team.
Besides, his self confidence showed in his display against Lodi of Brazil( mind you,who is seen as one of best left backs in La liga today) was encouraging. He is always ready to take on his mam ans always willing to have the ball. These attributes would do him well at Barca.
And as @Glory stated; Messi plays down the middle or as a false 9. Griezmann is not really a winger and has been played out of position at the left.Dembele is injury prone and behind the scene, he is not seen as a professional; his personal demons are causing a discrepancy to his work ethics and Barca board and fans are getting weary of this.
Fati Ansu is more of supporting striker.and the rest of the La masia graduates filling into that position right now can’t really hold Samu’s sweat.
So i see an opportunity for him here.
If the rumours are true and the chance comws, I would advice he goes; take his chance. He got the quality and self believe to do well there. Life is all about time and chance.you never till you try….

@Uchenna he is not African Messi, he is Nigerian Chukwueze. We have to stop belittling our players by tagging them “little Messi,African Messi, African Nyamer, Nigerian Maradona, African Ronaldo”.

He has a name and the name is Samuel Chukwueze. Let us stick to that. You could describe him as having similar play style as Messi but there is no honor in calling him “little,African or Nigerian Messi”.

Kanu Nwankwo was Kanu through out his entire career, Finidi was Finidi, Taribo was Taribo, Babayaro was Babayaro, Ikpeba was Ikpeba, Jay-Jay and the rest of our legends. With that said, let us not diminish the young man’s reputation with the little this or African that tag.

Lol about England. He needs to avoid that place like the plague, make dem no come put sand for em garri.

          • Glory 5 years ago

Hahahaha… Yes oo. No England oo. This wazza dazzler is one of the reasons I m always eager to watch SE matches. Any attempt to go England, they will convert this pure baller to left full back. Anyway, just like @ Hush rightly say, lets just hope these stories are true.

  • The news above of Chukwueze being linked with a move to Barcelona is one that feels me with ambivalence.

As much a I would like our players to move to big clubs, I also want them to be settled, enjoying their whilst either breaking or setting new records.

With this in mind, I can’t say for sure whether I will rejoice or worry if Chukwueze’s Barcelona move does see the light of day.

In this regards, I made a couple of assumptions which might inform how I will feel about the move.

    Villarreal Assumptions:

    – plays more week in week out.
    – he will eventually be idolised by Villarreal fans
    – Stability in his career
    – Continuity in his career growth.
    – Expected to score more goals.
    – Super star status.

    Barcelona assumptions

    – Not guaranteed game time.
    – he might have to be asked to change positions to accommodate others.
    – decent player status.
    – it will be difficult to be a idolised by fans (Barcelona will always have other mega stars) .
    – potential for shattered dreams (like Amuneke, Gbenga Okunowo or Coutinho).
    – if it doesn’t work out (like Philipe Coutinho), looking for a new club might disrupt his career in the short term.

    Conclusion

No one can predict the future with any degree of accuracy. That said, should, Chukwueze eventually choose to move to Barcelona, he should have a plan ‘b’ lined up so he can trigger that very quickly if things don’t work out!

    • Pompei 5 years ago

Deo, well said. On one side, ambition to win trophies might tempt him to sign for Barca or Madrid. But as you said, that move comes with a lot of uncertainty. On the flip side, Villareal offers him stability. He won’t be winning La Liga or Champions League with Villareal though. So, what is important to Chuks at this time in his career?

  • Pompei 5 years ago

Lol Glory, an English club converting Chuks to left back? Naija fans will burn dat club to the ground! Left back ko, goalkeeper ni!

  • OK let me add my own ideas,1 Barca has always been a one player team for my own understanding,a club that you will always hear about one player every year, since I started following football after koman it was Ronaldo then figo,Ronie, messi.and they have never praise any black player even with their hard work’s and efforts i still remember how Amunike Etoo, yaya finished with them now see umtiti and dembele, pls samu dnt go there, england or Germany will better place for you, good luck

    @Ubah

On the contrary Barca has never been a one man team; yes, there have been standout players in every era ( like in any other team),but Barca general philosophy is all about team play.
Since Johan Cruyff took over has coach and director of football in the late 80s and early 90s,Barcelona restructured their game plan and built up the La Nadia(their academy) to play a team game based on possession.Cruyff game play was all about total football, mass defence and mass attack,so it is all about team play, not one man. He brought in Guardiola,Romario,Stoichkov, Hagi,Michael Laudrup, and Ronald Koman you mentioned. Besides, the Xavis,Iniestas,Txiki,Bakero were all students of his philosophy at La masia then. You can’t say thode group of players is a one man squad.
Even when Cruyff left, Barcelona continued with his philosophy and still use it till date.yes, managers such as Van gaal,Robson came in and digressed from that philosophy, but they were sacked for that. In fact Guardiola picked up the philosophy and improved on it with his tiki taka brand, which Barcelona still use till now. So it is far from a one man team.
The problem today with Barcelona is that Valverde is digressing from the philosophy and it is affecting Barca’s play making it a Messi affair. If he doesn’t change.Valverde would be sacked soon.

And the reason Eto ,Yaya left Barca is because they had a fallen out with Guardiola.it has nothing to do with the club.both have stated it in interviews that Guardiola is a good manager, but a bad person. And for Amunike,we all know,he was injured and that was a major setback for him.before the his injury,he was a starter ,along side Ronaldo upfront.the press called them “izquierda y derecha”..meaning “left and right”.
Blacks have succeeded in Barca,Abidal,Keita ,Kluivert( who is director of youth football at Barcelona now) to name a few.
The thing about Barcelona, they have a high standard,if you don’t cut it,you are shipped out,no matter who you are.same for Real Madrid..it is all about standard nothing about race or being a one man team.

If Samu feels he is worth his money and he believes in himself,he should go.
The only thing certain in life time, everything else, good or bad,it is up to our actions to find out.

I disagree with those of the opinion that he shouldn’t move! Have you studied Chukwueze well?? Have you followed how he got into Villareal’s 11 today?? If you do, you will then know that Samuel Chukwueze is not in anyway a Lazy player! His hard work displaced protocols both in Club and Country to have him in the Starting 11 for both.

A move to another Club in Spain is of course the best! England is a No-No! Ever since I know Barça, they don’t play formations that will switch a born attacker into a Wing back…Never! So for those saying He might be converted into another position to accommodate other players, Hope you’re now cleared? If Chukwueze moves to Barça, there is no way he will be moved to another position apart from the attack. As for game time, I guarantee you that Chukwueze will walk straight into the Starting 11. Why am I so sure, His hard work all the years speaks volume. Also, Messi doesn’t play on the Left wing, he either plays a free role or play 10 so no obstruction on Messi’s part. Dembele, I tell you that he’s already frustrated at Barça due to Injury prone career he has been having ever since he joined them. One thing we ought to know with Barça is when you are good, they won’t deny you playing time and of course, we know Chukwueze’s superb and immense quality. For someone saying they don’t give Black players time, I strongly disagree! Have you forgotten when Umtiti was very good before the Injury struck him, he was playing week in, week out for Barça?? We all know Dembele issue has been 1 game, 3 weeks injury lay-off. Amuneke also suffered same fate at Barça, Injury! This players played when they were good and when they have one issue on the other they couldn’t. Barça no be for lazy man. Let’s not attribute there lack of play time to Race. Finally, Let’s stop belittling our players for crying out loud! Whenever a Nigerian is linked to a Big Club move, Our dear fans will quickly rush out to disagree cuz they feel he won’t make it. How do you know he/she won’t when they haven’t Tried?? Yet those fans will be first to complain later that “Our players are lazy and that they all play for average clubs”.

Am very sure if Asisat Oshoala has made her proposed move to Barcelona known to Media, Our dear Nigerians would have come out with essays to disagree with her and giving her silly reasons. The girl was very smart with her move. She made the move to the amazement of everyone. From China to Barcelona?? Now, is she not playing week in week out?? Is she not scoring goals for the club?? Does that not make you feel African Women player of the Year award is no doubt going to be hers?? This are the advantages we get when our players play for this big clubs. Go…Go Chukwueze! Barça please sign this lad
