Bautista Agut, seeded fourth, is hoping to make the semi-finals in Germany for the third time in four years after also going deep into the tournament in 2015 and 2017 and he will now face seventh-seed Argentine Guido Pella.
Brazil Open champion Pella had a tougher time making it through after he had to fight to overcome Taro Daniel of Japan 6-1 6-7(7) 6-3 in two hours and 19 minutes Bautista Agut is the favourite to progress and beat Pella 6-3 6-1 6-1 in the 2017 Australian Open first round.
