Bayelsa United board member in charge of Technical Affairs, Godson Abaikade, has expressed firm optimism that the club’s new recruitment drive has produced a squad capable of securing immediate promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Speaking ahead of the team’s opening fixture of the Nigeria National League (NNL) season, Abaikade assured supporters that the squad has been properly equipped to deliver on their primary target.

“We have prepared the players that will do that for us, and, by the grace of God, on Sunday, we will set the ball rolling, and Bayelsans will be very proud of this team,” Abaikade stated.
Addressing team operations, Abaikade emphasized that player welfare remains a top priority for the administration. He revealed that despite operating in the second tier, the state government ensured the squad retained the premium financial and logistical packages enjoyed during their spell in the top flight.

“In the NNL, Bayelsa United is one of the teams with the best welfare packages,” he noted. “We retained the same benchmark that the team was getting when they were in the NPFL.”
He credited the state government for its continued backing, adding: “In terms of welfare packages, I think we have done well. His Excellency gave us that mandate and backed it up with a wonderful welfare package for the team.”
