Begovic Determined To Leave Vitality Stadium

Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic says he needs to leave the club after a falling out with coach Eddie Howe.

The 32-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the Vitality Stadium, and he is now competing with Artur Boruc, Aaron Ramsdale and Mark Travers.

Begovic is now the third choice stopper on the south coast, a considerable fall from grace following his move to the Cherries in 2017.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international made 25 appearances for Bournemouth last season, but he was dropped due to several poor performances. The former Portsmouth stopper now looks to have played his last game for the club after making over 60 league appearances since his move from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.

He still has three years left on his contract, but an exit is now on the agenda. The European transfer window does not shut until September 2, but Begovic is hoping he can finalise a move away from the Premier League club.

“He made a decision as the manager,” Begovic told The Athletic. “Of course I didn’t like it. Any time you don’t play, you don’t like sitting on the bench.

“We had a discussion, and obviously, now, the manager feels like going in a different direction is the best thing for the club, for the team. I’m not playing games, and I have always played games throughout my whole career, so of course, I’m trying to find a solution, but there are many different sides to it.”

Ramsdale has started the club’s first three Premier League games against Sheffield United, Aston Villa and Manchester City.

Howe can still call upon the experience of Boruc in the coming months, but it appears that Ramsdale’s performances last season have been enough to put him to the top of the pile.

The Cherries are back in action on Wednesday night as they prepare to take on Forest Green Rovers on home soil.

Howe is planning to make changes to his starting XI with Travers potentially starting in goal against the League Two side.

Striker Dominic Solanke, who signed from Liverpool for £19million, is set to the lead the line with Josh King and Callum Wilson dropping out of the team.

However, left-back Charlie Daniels will be absent after he suffered a knee injury against Manchester City at the weekend.

The fan favourite had just returned from injury, but he was taken off the pitch on a stretcher during the 3-1 defeat.
