Sheffield United forward Callum Robinson has been passed fit to feature for the Republic of Ireland against Switzerland on Thursday.
The versatile forward has a made a positive start to the domestic season with the Blades following his switch from Preston for a reported £7million.
He has started all four of their Premier League games and opened his account for the club in the dramatic 2-2 draw at Chelsea prior to the international break.
Chris Wilder is clearly a big fan of Robinson’s ability and he is the only attacker to have been given the nod for all of their outings so far this season.
David McGoldrick has started twice, while club-legend Billy Sharp and summer signing Ollie McBurnie have been restricted to just one start apiece.
His exploits at club level have seen him included in Mick McCarthy’s Republic of Ireland squad once again for their two matches against Switzerland and Bulgaria.
They take on the Swiss in Euro 2020 qualifying on Thursday at the Aviva Stadium before hosting Bulgaria in a friendly in Dublin on Tuesday.
Ireland have enjoyed a strong start to qualifying, winning three and drawing one of their four games, and they subsequently sit at the top of Group D with a five point advantage over second-placed Denmark.
But there were fears they may have to cope without Robinson for Thursday’s clash following news that he sat out of their final training session on Wednesday after complaining of tightness in a muscle.
Officials from the Republic of Ireland are understood to have informed Sheffield United about the situation and it’s claimed the decision to leave Robinson out of the season was just precautionary.
That news will be welcomed by Blades fans as they hope to have Robinson back in their forward line when the Premier League season resumes later this month.
The South Yorkshire club sit 10th, having earned a shock promotion last season, and boast five points from their opening four matches.
They have tasted defeat just once, losing 2-1 at home to Leicester, and are unbeaten on the road following a spirited fightback to draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Wilder will be hoping that if Robinson does get the chance to feature on Thursday, that he is rested for the friendly to ensure that he doesn’t suffer any needless injuries ahead of returning to Bramall Lane.
