Former Super Eagles technical adviser Bonfrere Jo has blamed the team’s exit at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States of America on the erstwhile handler of the side Clemens Westerhof.
The Super Eagles agonisingly lost 2-1 to Itlay in their second round match in the competition.
The three-time African champions were a minute away from recording a famous victory against the Italians before Roberto Baggio netted the equalising goal.

Baggio then struck from the spot in extra time to hand victory to Arigo Sacchi’s men.
Bonfrere, who was Westerhof’s number two at that time has come out to say that the latter sold the game to Italy.
“Yes Everyone blames the coach. The coach did something wrong and we lost before the game started,”Bonfrere revealed in an interview with Brila FM.
“He sold the game for $100,000, that’s why we lost against Italy. If you don’t believe, you can ask the players.”

Complete sports why join Brila Fm to spread this false News Bonfere Jo never categorically stated this on the live commentary, he declined to say anything please don’t start a war in Nigeria football because these two coaches have done their bits in the Nigeria football history.
Don’t take advantage of their beef and make sales or popularity that you already have. Please let’s be well guided
I don’t believe this crap, stop spreading rumours complete sports and Brila Fm, WE are not stupid.
Lol…chai!!! Wonders Shall never end o. So u knew all this and kept quiet all this while. You are an accomplice in the scandal for keeping quiet. You’ve been lurking around the corner lately, I’m having the feelings you are in the know of what is happening around Mr rohr. You been living in Nigeria for quite a while now, been watching the dead local league and must gotten infected with the evil virus of corruption that has eaten deep into the fabric of the system in every sector and hence would be willing to come back to the handle the team (with a rookie- yobo, as your vice) hence ur antecedents verbally and in print. The Above listed criteria fits perfectly with the absurd conditions given to Mr rohr in his new suicidal contract. But never mind, God is not sleeping. He’ll put all of you in shame. You can’t have it your way all the time, God is a God of justice.
This man is a cancer and a betrayer. Don’t understand why some people are praising him at all. By the way what is he doing in Nigeria now,if not for idleness? Can’t even know how many team he has coached ever since he left Nigeria job. He is just prognosing in what that did not concern him just to get relevant
Westerhof qualified us for our first world cup and won us an Afcon. Bonfrere led us to Olympic soccer gold. It is sad indeed that these two men who played such a huge role in the development of our football, who both happen to be Dutch, have such hatred for each other. Under normal circumstances, they should be good friends. What happened between them? This accusation – as Oakfield said, why oh why is he coming out with it 26 years after the fact? That 1994 team had what it took to go all the way to the world cup final. The only team that could have beaten us was Brazil. And even then, we would have given them a good game, and who knows what would have happened? If Westerhof really sold the game, then he was penny wise and pound foolish. If he had led Nigeria to the world cup final, that achievement would have opened all kinds of doors for him, and he would have made a lot more than the paltry, beggarly $100k that he allegedly collected (if the accusation is true). I want to believe it is not true. However, for Bonfrere to come out like this and say it, hmmmm. After all, there is a reason they say there is no smoke without fire.
But like seriously this shd nt be news, am 90% is support of jo bonfere here, I know we gat lots of adult in this forum so why the surprise? If you guys watch the said match with the full maturity like I did then, then we shd believe jo, because we played Italy hand down until the injury to our two main man in person of amokachi and amunike which I believe it’s secret reveal to Arigo sachi that if he can get both players off the pitch, we are done. And I really don’t blame jo for revealing the secret now, I mean he is just assistant that dnt wanna loose his job, haven’t said all this, we dnt want him or anybody but roh to continue as our super eagle coach for now. God bless Nigeria.
@pompei “However, for Bonfrere to come out like this and say it, hmmmm. After all, there is a reason they say there is no smoke without fire.” I stand to believe him judging by the kind of questionable and needless substitutions he made when Nigeria was in the driving seat of the game. Substitution such as removing Daniel Amokachi who was terrorizing the Italian defender, creating chances. Many were displeased and questioned why he should remove the man-of-the-match at that point in time and when all were going well. I stand to be corrected anyway!
Amokachi and Amunike were target and injured by Albértini. That is the Italian game plan.
The substitutions were injury prone.
Bonfire should just behave himself.
Amokachi and Amunike were targeted and injured by Albertini. That is a game plan by the poor Italian team then.
The substitutions were injury induced.
Bonfere should behave himself
If it is true, the law of kamer will get back to the Italians. We cant turn back the record table but history will repeat it self then we will knock out italy in the quaters of 2022 wcup in qater. There we will become the first africa team to reach the semifinals.
I don’t believe this. Complete sports and Brila FM taje your time.
At a time as this, where captivating sportnews are scarce, I’m not surprised if this is just a plot to make a headline. However, there’s nothing new under the sun. But why now???
This Bonfere is always in the news any time there is a crisis regarding the SE coach (this time Mr. Rohr’s contract extension).
His agent are only trying, it’s a shame that the same man that nearly make SE miss 2002 World Cup(safe for Amodu, Keshi and Erico that salvage the situation) is now coming up with another story.
Why wait until now. Rubbish talk.
The coaching crew still sells the matches even up till now. I believe this is still going on.
If its true that this man really grant this interview which I seriously dont believe, then must be thinking Nigerians are FOOLS, but if you read up some comments on here, I mean some people actually backing him up, are those people not really proving him right about how he feels about NIGERIANS?
