Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has continued to create excitements among fans of English Championship club Middlesbrough following his superlative showing for the club in recent weeks, reports Completesports.com.

He linked up with Middlesbrough in January on a short term deal after severing ties with Chinese club, Tianjin Teda.

His presence added a lot of grit and perseverance to Middlesbrough’s midfield setup as they recorded their 14th win of the season against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.

It was the Nigeria’s captain’s fifth game since he arrived on a free in January and he has helped Middlesbrough to two wins, two draws, and a defeat.

Marvelled by his performance, Middlesbrough official Twitter handle and some of the fans took the Social Media to express their love for the former Chelsea and Tianjin Teda midfielder.

“A Rolls-Royce of a midfielder 🚘
WE’VE GOT MIKEL 🎶,” reads a tweet on Middlesbrough’s official Twitter handle.

“We’ve got Mikel, Jon Obi Mikel, I just don’t think you understand….. #theafricanzidane#,” another Boro fan, @Cooky34 tweeted.

“In a season of terrible transfer windows, John Obi Mikel looks like an insanely good bit of business. What a player #,”@Grainger Neil raved about Boro’s new signing’s performance.

The Teessiders are now fifth in the Championship table with 54 points from 32 games- seven points off the automatic promotion place.

I tears up when l saw how the English folks idolized our own Mikel of Nigeria. Yes !!! ” l don’t think you understand” Mikel is now known as “Rolls-Royce Midfielder”
    Think about that, my friends.

We don’t respect what we have. He is pure class and a calming effect on the ball. #boss

Incredible that Chelsea let him go, and replaced him with Jorginho? I don’t know what Sarri was smoking when he made this decision, but surely now he realises the meaning of the Nigerian phrase “khaki no be leather”.

Was it Sarri that really let Mikel go….or Conte…?

        • pompei 5 years ago

You are right, it’s Conte. I’m so angry with Sarri, I now blame him for everything! 🙂

Some abysmal decisions have been made at Chelsea FC in recent times. The decision to let Salah go is perhaps the worst bit of football business this century! Granted, players come and players go in a football club. But I believe if Chelsea was administered better, they would be in a much stronger position than they currently are.

Same Sarri let Victor Moses go, and kept Husdon-Odoi. Abi dem swear for this guy? How do you let an established, league title winning, world cup player go for a small boy who is just learning the ropes? E be like say Sarri don enter market #craze

But bros……Truth be told, that Hudson-odoi kid brings something to the table that Moses doesnt. If a club like Bayern Munchen was chasing him like a love struck teenager, then he must be really special. Why Sarri has refused to give d guy a chance beats me. The man is just too rigid and predictable to succeed in a dynamic league like the EPL

Hudson-Odoi is a bright prospect, no doubt. But he is still behind Moses, at least for now. If Odoi had the talent of the likes of Messi, CR7, Hazard or Suarez at his age, I would understand. But truth be told, Hudson-Odoi is not all that. At least, based on what I’ve seen of him so far. If the move to Bayern goes thru, na bench em go dey, because Koman and Gnabry are on fire right now. I don’t see him upstaging either of those two. I have nothing against Hudson-Odoi, and I wish him well in his career. But if it was up to me, Moses stays at Chelsea, and Hudson-Odoi goes out on loan to garner more experience.

Some people know no football, Moses can defend and attack he has been in this game for so long, Odio is still learning, Bayarn wants Odoi because he his still young, they will develop him then sell him for a bigger amount, few people don’t know the strategy of football

    The African Zidane.

  • The English football league names Mikel in their team of the week and had this to say about him:

    “John-Obi Mikel – Middlesbrough

Mikel has quickly become a fan favourite at Boro, and it’s easy to see why on the latest evidence. The travelling fans sang his name throughout Sunday’s win at Blackburn Rovers, as the midfielder showed his class”.
