UPDATE: Golden Eaglets Secure 2023 U-17 AFCON Ticket After Comeback Win Vs Côte d’Ivoire

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have qualified for next year’s U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria, after defeating Côte d’Ivoire 3-1 in the first semi-final of the WAFU B tournament in Ghana, Completesports.com reports.

Two well taken free-kicks from Emmanuel Michael in the first half and a second half header off Abdullahi Idris, earned coach Nduka Ugbade and his side their third consecutive win at the regional tournament.

Michael has now netted three free-kicks at the ongoing tournament.

The Eaglets will now face either Ghana or Burkina Faso in the final billed for Friday, 24 June.

The Eaglets got off to a poor start as Côte d’Ivoire opened scoring in the second minute from the penalty spot through Yan Diomandi.

Following a clumsy tackle on Diomandi inside the box, the referee pointed to the spot with the scorer sending the Eaglets keeper the wrong way.

In the 31st minute the Eaglets equalized thanks to a free-kick from Michael, whose effort close to the corner flag slipped past the Ivorian keeper.

Michael then made it 2-1 on 43 minutes from another free-kick this time from a central position, which beat the Ivorian wall before nestling into the back of the net.

Idris then made it 3-1 in the 61st minute as he rose highest to head in a swung in free-kick with the keeper stranded.

With 13 minutes left the Eaglets were awarded another free-kick but this time Michael’s attempt went narrowly wide.

In the 86th minute a beautiful team play from the Eaglets set up Precious Williams with a clear chance, but his effort went inches off target.

Your fetish nature is making you dumb and stupid as side effect I hope you’ll take note because watching the more grown ivorian especially their no7 I wonder how then we look older than those huge guys. Selfmadeidiot your sins are haunting you and your nation no wonder you’ll all keep suffering.

Now I understand, you do not know your history. MRI has happened to Ghana also. The day will come when Ghanaians must explain the real reason they have become a hateful people. They don’t like Nigerians, they don’t like Ivoriens, neither do they love the Togolese. Abroad, if they are not currying favour with the white boss, they will a fellow African before every non-African they meet. They are quick to condemn others for the same crime they are known for. Read every sentence in the statement rendered here by Selfmade KING and you’d feel a heart pouring out slimy hate.

  • Nigeria has done it’s own part now Ghana should fullfil its own part to set up the Epic final we have all been dreaming of……. wooooooooow

    • It’s heartwarming two goals were scored via freekick in the match,a feat we’ve not seen in ages even in the Super Eagles.
It goes on to buttress the importance of proficiency in set pieces in winning matches. It is not all the time you get to score via open play.
I hope the Super Eagles are watching.

      • Akin, you have spoken my mind jare! What intriqued me is about the way the under 20 and under 17 have played, I saw the flying eagles shooting from outside the 18yards box frequently and the Eaglet reminding us of Chris Ohenhen in 1989 at Saudi Arabia.
What they have displayed is still a missing link in the super Eagles, these are home grown coaches o, that do not command the respect of some Nigerians.
I make bold to say that the super Eagles handlers should study how these duo played and incorporate their Technics into the ones they already have nothing bad in learning from our local coaches

Congratulations to our Golden Eaglet, Coach Nduka Ugbade and the entire team for this achievement.

They said we don’t have talents in Nigeria anymore according to our former world class coach and his company.

Oga Paseiro is in Nigeria at the moment scouting for more players. That is how it should be kę. Super Eagles need a freekick taker in the team. Two reliable keepers, two creative midfielders.

Super Eagles need to do more training on how they can organize their wall when taking a freekick. I saw the way our Eaglet scored the first goal against Ivory Coast today Kai, am moved. We still have so many abundant talented players any where in Nigeria. I am sure of that.

When they asked the man of the match the no 3, Emanuel, he said he has been training the freekick for a while and when ever he have to take one, he believes he will score.

Musa Muhammad, where is the young man today?

Abubakar his partner at the under 17 2013?

This is why I said Oga Rohr did not do anything special or spectacular during his time. Now that Aina won’t be available, Musa Muhammad or Ebuehi should be the best replacement for Aina.

As I was saying o je e, I am so proud of coach Nduka Ugbade. For you to have a balance team, you must have a Freekick specialists, good goalies, well calm and intelligent defenders, good wingers and well two goal machines in the team as their strikers. Coach Nduka Ugbade were able to achieve this because he has a purpose and vision.

Marnu Gerba and Amunike were his blueprints and architecture of this achievement. It is a challenge for Coach Nduka Ugbade if he doesn’t deliver the world cup trophy. He have no choice, he have to select the best squad to represent Nigeria. This is why we are here today celebrating with him. Congratulations to Golden Eaglets of Nigeria.

I hope Oga Paseiro will do the needful things to scout for more quality players because, we have what it takes to rule the world of football again. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • I feel you bro. I was tempted to support Ghana too. What else does Ghana now have to look forward to in 2023 after the Qatar World Cup?

      – Under 17 Afcon. Nope
      – Under 17 world cup. Nope
      – Under 20 Afcon. Nope
      – Under 20 World Cup. Nope
      – This July’s Women’s Afcon. Nope
      – Senior Women’s World Cup. Nope

A whole 6 tournaments that Nigeria directly or indirectly stopped Ghana from participating in! 🙁

I apologize unreservedly to my Ghanaian brothers and sisters. Mr Selfie and Honourable Mr Yaw, we Nigeria fans love you with all our hearts.
