UPDATE: Ndidi, Iheanacho Help Leicester Clinch First-Ever FA Cup Title After Shocking Chelsea

Super Eagles stars Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi have joined the long list of Nigerians who have won the prestigious English FA Cup, after Leicester City shocked favourites Chelsea in Saturday’s final at Wembley stadium on Saturday, Completesports.com reports.

It was Leicester’s first-ever FA Cup title after losing in four previous finals.

The hero for Leicester City was Belgian star Youri Tielemans whose 63rd minute rocket from outside the box proved to be the winner.

Chelsea thought they had equalised in the 89th minute off an own goal by Wes Morgan but after consultation with VAR Ben Chillwell was judged to be offside in the build up.

Ndidi and Iheanacho were in the starting eleven for Leicester with the former playing for 90 minutes while the later was replaced on 67 minutes.

Leicester City are now the 44th different side to win the FA Cup, and the first first-time winners of the competition since Wigan Athletic in 2013.

Brendan Rodgers is the first manager to win both the English and Scottish FA Cup since Sir Alex Ferguson (four Scottish FA Cup titles with Aberdeen and five English FA Cup titles with Man Utd).

For Chelsea, they have become the first team to lose back to back FA Cup Finals since Newcastle in 1998 and 1999.

Congratulations to Nigeria Ndidi, Iheanacho Leicester and Nigeria fans.

    We are proud of you.

I want to say this not because of anything but reality.

Anything is possible in football if you believe.

Who would say Leicester could win this title against Chelsea my favorite club of all time?

You don’t need to have big stars in your team before you can win something. That is for Oga Rohr who believes Nigeria doesn’t have whatever it takes to win big titles.

The level of Leicester team is way below Chelsea’s team but they shocked the blues. It pains me but just because of Nacho and Ndidi, I am happy because Leicester made a huge history today by winning the FA Cup Title.

At this point, NFF and the gaffer have to decide on time, we are tired of having a team that have so many star players without anything to show for it.

Congratulations once again Leicester City. God bless Nigeria!!!

Is like even when there is no competition you will create your own, the last nations cup Nigeria came 3rd for a team that is very young and large percentage of it are debutants, a team that was not favourite to win the competition all of a sudden we expected Rohr to win the trophy. Nigeria had already been written off during the last world cup qualifier believing that Nigeria will not qualify for the world cup, due to the level Nigeria was at that time, the so called super chicken. Moreover, super eagles team at that moment was made up of fresh legs, buh all of a sudden we expected Nigeria to win world cup. Going by what you are saying that means it was Mozambique that supposed to win the last AFCON, then world cup Saudi Arabia. Weldone sir, Int’l football analyst

At least, you and I can be proud of having fantastic players under Mr. Gernot Rohr abi?

Excuses have started again? Can’t you see the list ni?

I don’t need to talk too much on this. I am expecting you all to come in numbers to defend the list.

Can’t you see that have said this long time ago that Oga Rohr will continue having fabulous players but to build a team to win trophies may not be possible.

Let the excuses continue as usual. God bless Nigeria!!!

With this FA cup win, Seniorman Nacho and Ndidi have earned the right to chieftaincy titles in their respective communities.
I love the way the owner came into the pitch to celebrate with the team. The unity of purpose was clear for all to see. In this day and age when club owners prefer to operate behind the scenes, here’s a club owner who is fighting on the front lines with his troops. A well deserved trophy for the Khun family, the coaching crew, the players, and of course, the die hard fans.

The next step now is for Seniorman and Ndidi to win a trophy for Nigeria.
The next Afcon would be very nice. Nigerians, especially Omo9ja, will be very happy!

Of course I will but at the same time I won’t deceive myself.

We have the players to win Nigeria the fourth Afcon trophy but the coaching department is outdated.

You can tell by the list from the Coaches of the team.

Leicester City players and their coach Brendan Rodgers had the courage and self determination to compete with the best and God rewarded them against Chelsea.

In Super Eagles team, that is another story entirely. Our players are always ready to win anything but NFF and Oga Rohr are pushing the team backward.

Oga Rohr don’t believe his team can win against the best teams. Talking down his team always and his followers calling that a tactic and the way to protect the team.

The coaching crew is not helping the situation and all we are seeing and hearing is my team is young and they are not good enough and the recycling continues.

I will be very happy if Oga Rohr win any trophy for Nigeria because it is long over due.

I will keep mentioning Oga Rohr’s name and NFF until we can call Super Eagles a team you and I can call our team.

We don’t have a team yet but we have players. Shikena. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

      • @omo9ja. I am sorry you’re confused over this.we don’t have a team yet? We went through a qualifier without losing. We have been consistent with same set of players. You don’t just criticize all the time. That’s immaturity.

Ihesnacho had a disappointing game, thanks to vicious marking by Ruediger.

    • KangA 3 years ago

It’s the folly of marking off a particular player. Others will do the damage. Would have been exciting if the Seniorman has scored, though.

  • The MOUTHY Ian Wright once claimed that the Nigerian contingent at leicester were not good enough , he attacked Ihenacho as a waste of money and a flop , i am so happy especially for Ihenacho for making the likes of Ian Wright eat their words – congratulation
