Brighton Boss Hints At White Stay

Brighton boss Graeme Potter has indicated defender Ben White remains in his long-term plans. White is currently on loan at Championship club Leeds and has established himself as a key man at the back under manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The 22-year-old has played the full 90 minutes in all 11 of Leeds’ Championship fixtures, with the West Yorkshire outfit conceding just seven goals so far.

Albion allowed White to move on as he would have struggled for game time at the Amex Stadium as Lewis Dunk, Shane Duffy and summer recruit Adam Webster were ahead of him in the pecking order, but Potter says the youngster – who is yet to make a league appearance for Brighton – is in his thoughts going forward.

“Ben White at Leeds has a great opportunity to work with Bielsa and compete in the Championship in front of a big and hostile crowd, so good for him,” said Potter, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
White signed a contract extension at Brighton during the summer and is tied down to the club until 2022.

The defender is set to spend the full season with Leeds and it has been suggested they will attempt to sign White outright at the end of his temporary stay, but their chances of completing a deal are likely to depend on whether or not they can secure promotion back to the top flight.

There have been reports Premier League leaders Liverpool are interested in White and have sent scouts to keep tabs on him at Leeds.

It has been claimed the Reds will make a £20million move in the January transfer window although that may not be enough to convince Brighton to sell, while it remains unclear if the Seagulls have the option to cancel his loan in the January window.
