Nigeria’s number one citizen, President Muhammadu Buhari has heaped plaudits on Anthony Joshua after the pugilist reclaimed his world heavyweight boxing title belts from Andy Ruiz Jnr in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia on Saturday night, reports Completesports.com.
Joshua gained revenge for his nightmare in New York earlier this year, when he fell four times in defeat to Ruiz Jr, by winning onunanimous decision in their rematch and claiming back the IBF, WBA and WBO titles.
Two scores of 118-110 and another of 119-109 meant the world titles returned to the Nigerian-born British heavyweight boxer who celebrated with his family after the highly anticipated fight.
President Buhari expressed happiness on Joshua’s performance in the fight and praised him for bringing joy to millions of Nigerians.
“I salute World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Anthony Joshua, on his Saturday night comeback victory over Andy Ruiz Jnr. You have brought joy and celebration to millions of Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora; we are and will continue to be immensely proud of you,” reads a Tweet on the President Buhari’s official Twitter handle.
The President added: “The downfall of a man is truly not the end of his life. There’s always another, and better day. This is a lesson we must all learn from Anthony Joshua, as a country.”
