Nigeria forward Taiwo Awoniyi was on target as Union Berlin recorded a 2-0 home win against VFL Wolfsburg in their Bundesliga clash at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei on Saturday, reports Completesports.com.
Awoniyi put the home team in front four minutes after the break after he was set up by Japan midfielder Genki Haraguchi.

Union Berlin record signing showing his worth, he scored the 100th goal for union berlin last game since being in the bundesliga. Like I said he is good on 1v1 situations and has good dribbling skills. He can move around too. He is just too strong for the backline to handle. But Awoniyi made the right decision to go to another team and be the main man.
Sometimes he can have off days where he doesn’t score, like he is not consistent, but he is 4th in bundesliga goal scorers right now and sometimes give braces. He now have six goals putting him 4th in goals and currently the team is 5th in the bundesliga, I can see him reaching for more than 15 goals this season. I don’t know what the recruiting is like for super eagles to keep him out so long.
This is a guy who our coach does not even know how to use… Awoniyi is stronger, quicker and more dynamic than Iheanacho and in any two-man attack arrangement… 442/352… this guy is suppose to be pairing Osimhen ahead of Iheanacho in my opinion! Awoniyi is massively improved and wears the tag of a real hustling attacker… I will place my pick for him above Iheanacho, Moffi in our setup anyday allday…
Why did he not score against CAR in Lagos but scores in Germany
What??? Lol Ok how is Onuachu scoring 33 goals a season but can’t score a handful for Nigeria since he has been invited more times than Awoniyi lol??? What kid of stupid question is this…
That’s why you’re not the coach. Playing two strikers at once is an experiment done sparingly – mostly when you’re chasing a game! These keyboard coaches sha
Go and sitdown… Sweden, England and a host of other nations still keep to traditional 442 playing style. Dont come here talking kak about playing two strikers as if such a system has been phased out or banned in football… is it not goals that decide a football match? So why shouldnt the system be used?
You no sabi anything at all. I never said double-centerforwards can’t be used or outdated, I only said its used ‘sparingly’ or when a team is chasing a game. Learn to read and comprehend. Abeg Park well jare.
No sane coach will bench Nacho to play Awoniyi and Osimhen (two strikers with similar movement and abilities), except he’s chasing the game. Only keyboard coaches can do that!
@JimmyBall, in addition, the only striker better than Awoniyi in the SE right now is Victor Osimhen. Instead of contemplating using Onuachu, Coach Rohr should rather Awoniyi is played. We saw a glimpse of the few minutes he played against savoy’s side in Cameroon. We could feel the hunger in him.
Apart from scoring in the 4th minutes, Awoniyi almost broke the deadlock in the first 2 minutes of exchanges. Aside, though Ihenaecho is trying, Awoniyi is lot better.
Can Awoniyi even make Leicester City bench??? Lol
I’m a little surprised that it took Moffi having an injury before Awoniyi could get a look in when he is clearly one of the most in form strikers we have in the top 5 leagues..
@Footballfanatic… certain individuals are still being included in the team merely based on politics… Musa needs to be cast off that time… he now has 100caps and has served well.
There is no sane reason that Awoniyi should not be no.2 just only behind Victor… he plays in a league better and stronger than Onuachu’s Jupiler League in Belgium… it should be… (1). Victor (2). Awoniyi and (3) Onuachu… in that order of pecking!
If we can get Victor Moses to also rescind his decision to call time on his international career and jump on the wagon again… we will have another player with the profileof an X-factor… in the squad.
We hope we make it to the world cup after the last qualifying rounds…
I support in your write up bro. I don’t see any need for having Paul Onuachu, Ahmed Musa, in the team anymore. Am so happy he has gotten his 100 caps despite not being active and playing in less fancy league courtesy of double standard Coach.
We have seen more than enough of both of them and they hardly bring anything special on the table.
Our Super Eagles is in dire need of playmakers. We can’t keep on depending on a particular player for creativity. If we are to meet a top team like England, France, Germany without Iwobi, does it mean we will be stranded? Enough of Oga Rhor rigidity with handling of some department in the team. The search for a creative player should begin as soon as possible.
I agree with you @jimmyball especially the call for return of Victor Moses. None of our winger has been able to replicate that guy performance for SE.
Question: What did Iheanacho have for lunch today?
Answer: Harry Maguire!
Those saying Awoniyi should be preferred to Iheanacho, hmmm. Go and watch the Leicester vs Man United game. You may be inclined to have a rethink afterward. Iheanacho blows hot and cold, agreed. But when he is hot, my goodness!
He gave the 3 Lions center back a torrid time today. Nutmegged him earlier in the game and almost had an assist from that move. The assist did come later, with Iheanacho picking Maguire’s pocket while he was dilly-dallying on the ball in his danger area, and then setting up Tielemans for a cheeky Leicester equalizer.
Tonight, Maguire will be having nightmares, and Iheanacho will be the boogeyman!
For me, instead of the WHO IS BETTER THAN arguments, let’s just keep encouraging all of them to perform. And when the international matches come around, the coach should use the ones invited wisely. Iheanacho that did not measure up to expectation today, may be our saviour tomorrow. This is football. Every dog has his day.
You dey mind these clueless attention-seekers? Imagine comparing Iheanacho to Awoniyi. For the records, Iheanacho and Awoniyi were both at U-17 World Cup, Iheanacho outshined him (by a country-mile) and won player of the tournament.
Iheanacho and Awoniyi were both signed by Man City and Liverpool respectively, while Nacho was able to get games in a star-studded team that had Aguero and Co, Awoniyi couldn’t make the cut at Liverpool. He was loaned out to some obscure team. Na so-so loan loan him dey go while Nacho was scoring EPL and CL goals for Man City. Nacho has EPL (the toughest league)player of the month award with some spectacular goals.
Only agenda (maybe tribal) can ever make someone mention Nacho and Awoniyi in the same sentence. Abeg dem no be mate. Can Awoniyi even make Leicester City bench? Lol. Nigerians go see road dey follow bush!
Point of correction; Awoniyi was loaned out primarily because he couldn’t get Work Permit. Nice write-up still…
Is he still searching for work permit? Awoniyi is a good player, definitely not on Iheanacho’s level. He’s only more physical – nothing more! Nowhere near Iheanacho’s footballing intelligence
Well said Pompei.
@pompei I always love your comments. Great one.
IN THE ABSENCE OF CREATIVE MIDFIELDER WHAT WE NEED URGENCY IN OUR STYLE OF PLAY ,THAT IS WHAT IS NEEDED AND BY NOW I EXPECT ROHR TO INCULCATE THIS PATTERN IN TO OUR FOOTBALL. URGENCY BREAKS THE OPPONENT’S DEFENCE AS IT WILL NOT GIVE THEM ROOM TO SETTLE DOWN , IT WILL ALSO MAKE THEM TO COMMIT MISTAKES. GOALS ARE SCORED BY COMMITTING MISTAKES. THE WAY SUPER EAGLES PLAY AT TIMES IS CASUAL AND THIS IS THE REASON WE LABOUR TO SCORE GOALS. AND WE SHOULD ALSO RUN INTO SPACES.
@JimmyBall, never mind the only
tribal goat called John-1. What’s John-1 if I may ask. And when did he start to make comments here? TODAY! THAT’S RED FLAG…He goes to accuse others of what he is known for, ha ha ha he thinks people are deceived. He is Dr Drey, Pompei, Glory, deo, Chris all talking to himself, fool. The moment you have a divergent opinion he begins to be agitated. We know ourselves here on CSN and never has there been any handle like John-1, shiiiiiiz, ha ha ha….As a matter of fact Awoniyi is better than their Senior, Nacho or whatever. Lets not go tribal about this fact, supporting any Nigerian player in all fairness is a task that is already being done. God bless Nigeria.
You’re actually very senseless and hardly make any meaningful comment. I’ve being a keen follower of CSN’s comment section for years. But I decided to join the fray due to nonentities like you and your likes. I used to be an active participant on Kickoff Nigeria (before it went off).
Na ya papa get CSN? Since you believe in freedom of expression, why do you frown at contrary opinion? I’m not Dre, Pompey or anyone else. In fact I like reading their posts more than the poor grammatical gibberish you post here!
Do you still read comments from omo9ja? I don’t. He does not alwsy make sense. But wait a minute @omo9ja does not abuse people on the forum. I am surprised about this comment.. this is not his comment.
It’s definitely not Omo9ja.
The grammar construction is very different.
And Omo9ja’s GOD BLESS NIGERIA always has an exclamation mark! This one does not!
CSN need to find a solution to this problem. People using other people’s names is not ok. CSN, over to you!
Its simple, but them no get money for database
Hehehehe, and Omo9ja always says IRE O before GOD BLESS NIGERIA.
It’s definitely not the real Omo9ja. You can take that to the bank.
Christian ministries Nigeria, Pompei and Greenturf, good observations and God bless us all.
I appreciate your concerns my dear people.
CSN should do something about this. This is getting out of hand.
I did not make a comment on this trend yesterday. In one word, it wasn’t me.
I don’t use bad words, I never did.
Lastly, I will either say ire o or God bless Nigeria!!! At the end of my comment.
Over to you CSN. Once again, many thanks to you my lovely people. I love you all.
Hmm. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
See this one o. He said as ‘a matter of fact’. Do you even know the meaning of fact? Lol
These are facts:
Kelechi Iheanacho achievements:
U-17 World Cup best player.
CAF most promising young player (twice)
EPL player of the month.
Leicester City goal of the month.
Club Trophies:
Football League Cup (Man City)
FA Cup (Leicester City)
Community Shield (Leicester City)
Cracking EPL goals.
Champions League goals.
FA Cup goals.
These are facts, not some Ajegunle beer parlour talk!
I don’t think this post is from Omo9ja I think someone else is behind this haha
Awoniyi has come of age and he has matured into a modern day number 9……He has pace and can hold up play well……I prefer Awoniyi to Iheanacho as a number 9 any day anytime……..Infact Iheanacho is not a number9 and should not even lead the line for SE because a number 9 needs certain characteristics which Iheanacho lacks……An excellent finishing does not necessarily make you a number9 but your all round play……. Awoniyi should be only deputising for Osimhen I mean Onuachu is not in Awoniyi’s class right now until he moves to a top5 league and show us what he can do among the elites.
Guys there’s no need to compare Awoniyi to Iheanacho. These are two different players with different style of play and I love them both!
@Chima E Sammuels… without diving emotionally tribal. I want to say I am neither Yoruba nor Igbo… I am Idoma. But I must confess, Iheanacho is a very good allround player… but as a top striker he is not dependable. Iheanacho is somewhere similar to a support striker with technique and ball playing abilities! He scores goals but you cannot depend on him to bail a team on a rainy day… I will say Awoniyi has always proven to be a goalscorer when given a chance he surely suits a number 9 more than an Iheanacho… you like for 1 – vs – 1 situation, quickness, strength and efficiency. I am happy Awoniyi is making a good statement for himself… at season end we will know who should be taken more seriously and who shouldnt! What we need to echo is for people like Samuel Kalu, Ahmed Musa, Onyekuru and Adullahi shehu to give way! bWe should be talking of giving the likes of Ejaria, Amoo, Tijani, Oladoye… see Germany bringing in a lot of youngsters through! Frank Onyeka is average regardless he plays in EPL or not be he can improve his game though… just for now, he brings nothing special to any team. I have seen a enough young African midfielders to know his likes are just being overhyped… I have nothing personal against him though… the Youngboy Kingsley Michael is miles better than Frank Onyeka… I will pick Ndidi, Kingsley, Etebo (even him avearge but more manageable than Frank)… After Russia 2018 where Iheanacho flopped bigtime and was not in form for AFCON 2019… I felt he was a player who has enjoyed more than a fair share of involvement in the national team setup! Thereare players like Kayode Olanrewaju… Anthony Nwakaeme who have been shut out of the team as if they are not Nigerians… sad!
@Jimmyoverthebar you go don write better things finish come spoil am with your endnote… maka why na???
mention what I said that is not reasonable… Dont you think Anthony Nwakaeme and Kayode Olanrewaju are about the best two Nigerian players in Turkish Super Liga?
Anthony Nwaekeme and Olanrewaju kayode are good and young enough for SE but Musa is way past his prime, kalu is suddenly no longer good enough haba. ..double standards everywhere
I am not sold on Kalu… he is good but did nothing when he entered against CAR. I am not sold on his game… when you have played football it is not every player that will convince one easily! If one is to draw a first eleven for Super Eagles… Chukwueze will occupy right wing and Ejuke left wing… if we need further wingers it should be Moses Simon for Ejuke and I will prefer other players that can slot into right wing other than Chukwueze like Olanrewaju, Lookman(can play at thr right or left side), and even Nwakaeme instead of Samuel Kalu… Kalu is injury proned and does nothing other than trying to force a legover anytime he gets served the ball!
@JimmyBall..Onyeka did well for the super eagles in our last internationals,Abdullahi Shehu has always put in a good shift whether as a right back or in the midfield. This two players are still important to our cause going forward.
I will agree on Amoo but not on Oladoye and Tijani unfortunately.Tijani has not been playing any football for Salzburg. His last loaned experience was not good because he ended up on the bench and wasn’t even considered at some point for the match day squad for the rest of the Austrian league season, yet he has not played any game for his parent club this season neither was he listed on the bench.Oladoye started well just like Tijani but the past couple of months he hardly play any football for this reasons this two youngsters have a long way to go in there career before getting to the level of consideration for a super eagles invitation.
Kayode is a good striker but not better than what we have presently.Nwakaeme tick all the right boxes but age could be cruel to him besides he didn’t take his chances when he had it.
Musa has no business with the super eagles.I would retire if I were him and he should do that if he really loves Nigeria,as it seems Musa will continue to get invitation for the foreseeable future the only person to stop this nonsense is Musa himself,he seem to be bigger than the coaches and the football authorities. He has big connect from the government his continuous invitation is political and this might cost us the nations cup,if he has any shame and patriotism for his country he should retire.
@Greenturf… you guys like to axe players you dont like. Is Ahmed Musa doing better than Kayode Larry in Turkey? Please be honest with yourself… so why are you saying he is not better than what we have… is Nwakaeme older than Messi, Ronaldo, Chiellini or Bonucci? And again… he was only invited once against Algeria in the qualifiers leading up to World Cup 2018 in Russia… only once he was invited and was written off completely after that because it was a reluctant invite extended to him… period! Our attitude of sacrificing merit for mediocrity and politics is catching up with us already and believe me… we may qualify for world cup but Super Eagles will be disgraced in the next AFCON… watch and see!
Olanrewaju Kayode – Centre Forward – 7 games 2 goals, 0 assists
Ahmed Musa – Right Winger – 8 games 1 goal, 2 assists
Musa is contributing 1 goal every 2.67 games even as a winger.
Kayode is contributing 1 goal every 3.5 games despite being a centre-forward
People who should be honest with themselves know themselves.
Dr. Drey, Ahmed Musa actually has 1 goal and 1 assist from 8 games.

This page is for Awoniyi, I dont know why people trying to spoil good things on this article dedicated to him by mentioning Iheanacho. If you want to talk about Iheanacho go to a article about him and stop being a hater here
Someone who played football says Frank Onyeka is over hyped in just 3 caps for the super Eagle’s… please go back and watch Ndidi’s first ten matches for super eagle’s without Mike or onanzi partnering him in midfield and comeback to judge Onyeka in the last 2 matches
@Cuteprince… I am not about Frank Onyeka only with his outing for Super Eagles! I have watched his game from how he runs, passes, tackles and shields his defence and turns in midfield… he is average to me! Maybe you see him different… Kingsley Michael just twisted his ankle again today playing for Bologna vs Udinese… sadlly, for me Kingsley is miles ahead of Onyeka. I will recall Joel Obi instead of Frank Onyeka… Joel Obi is still just only 30yrs… the problem with Rohr is that he does fancy players who have existed and have established their game before he took over Super Eagles… there is no way Joel Obi should not be a prominent member still of Super Eagles and starting with Ndidi in a twin Pivot… tell me if Onyeka is better than Joel Obi who still very active and reliable in Serie A… Rohr only wants his own players… from what I see!
Hahahahaha….Cuteprice, Some people obviously know football more than the coaches and football directors at Brentford….LMAOooo. I am really struggling to understand how mere ‘hype’ could have secured a $10m transfer from the Dannish league to the best league in the world…..LMAOOoo
I guess it was Onyeka’s hype that got him a regular, guaranteed starting shirt in Midjtylland, a place in the Dannish team of the season in 2020, and a 10m transfer to the biggest league in the world from Denmark. Im also sure its the same hype that has retained him in the starting lineup of a highflying Brentford team that is proving to be a menace to all the top teams in England.
All of a sudden, a Joel Obi who has lost his mojo since the days of Keshi is suddenly our next messaih whom Rohr does not fancy….LMAOooo…as if this same Rohr didnt give Joel Obi his chance in the SE setup up till 2018, even taking him to the 2018 world cup. Help us ask Mr ‘I played football’ what significant development Joel obi has witnessed in his career since 2018…..LMAOOoo. Joel delivers his first assist in God knows how long and he suddenly becomes the messaih we never had….LMAOooo. Every jack and harry that hits the crossbar in Europe over the weekend suddenly becomes better than all the players Rohr is using at the moment. Let Elderson Echiejile hit the post or deliver an assist wherever he is today and we will be told moonlight tales of how he his miles better than all those who are currently playing leftback in the SE now….LMAOOoo
Thank God some people are no where near our national team, otherwise its people who are struggling to get first team shirts in their clubs like Tijani, Nwakali, Onazi, Alampasu etc they will populate our SE with ahead of those playing at the REAL HIGHEST LEVEL on regular basis…..LMAOOoo.
The way some people just bandy names all around this forum sometimes makes for some good laugh….LMAOOooo
Some of these ‘over-sabi-guys’ level of football-daftness is amazing and annoying – simultaneously!
Imagine someone calling for Kayode Olarewaju, Nwaekeme,Joel Obi in this present era to SE just because they scored or assisted over the weekend. And such a person will have the effontry to criticize the coach. Later they will say for 5 years they didn’t have a team. How can you have a team when you keep inviting every Jack and harry. Tomorrow if Junior Ajayi or Onazi should score they will still come here to say they deserve to be in the team. Something is really wrong with some people true true.
VICTOR OSIMHEN SCORES AGAIN TO GIVE NAPOLI A PRECIOUS WIN AGAINST TORINO AND HELPS THEM MAINTAIN THEIR PERFECT START TO SERIE A THIS SEASON. EIGHT IN EIGHT WINS. THEY ARE TOP OF SERIE A WITH A TWO POINTS LEAD AGAINST AC MILAN.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OSIMHEN.
NEXT WEEKEND ITS
NAPOLI VS AS ROMA
AND
VICTOR OSIMHEN VS TAMMY ABRAHAM. LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.
Yes,Osimhen might still need to keep growing, but mhe we have a world class in the making on our hands. What a goal again today. He singlehandedly won that for his team.

I WONDER IF LIVERPOOL WILL BE WONDERING IF THEY WERE TOO HASTY IN SELLING AWONIYI OR IF THEY SOLD HIM TOO CHEAP. COMPARED TO HIS PRESENT FORM AND PERFORMANCE HE IS WORTH MORE THAN THE 8MILLION OR SO BERLIN PAID FOR HIS SERVICES AND IF HE CONTINUES IN THIS VEIN OF FORM TILL THE END OF THE SEASON, IT WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT FOR BERLIN TO KEEP HIM.
