Bundesliga 2019/2020 Matchday 15 kicked off yesterday – Friday December 13 at the PreZero Arena where the visitors FC Augsburg thrashed TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 4-2.
The home defeat extended Hoffenheim’s winless streak to four consecutive games, while Augsburg boosted their race away from relegation trough with the fourth win in their last five matches.
The scoreline was 1-1 at halftime following Philipp Max’s 11th minute opener for Augsburg and Robert Skov’s 14th minute goal for the home side. The Max competed his brace from a 51st minute penalty kick, while Fredrik Jensen made it 4-1 in the 56th. Jurgen Locadia’s 80th minute goal halved the deficit for Hoffenheim.

Borussia Mönchengladbach will be out to maintain or extend their one-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga when they travel to VfL Wolfsburg in one of the standout fixtures of Matchday 15. The Foals galloped back to the summit thanks to a 2-1 win over FC Bayern Munich last Saturday, with left-back Ramy Bensebaini grabbing both goals as they beat the Bavarian giants for the fifth time since early 2015. Gladbach have now won five of their last six league outings, and face a Wolfsburg side who have lost four of their last five.

Bayern’s blistering start under Hansi Flick has come to a juddering halt following successive defeats to Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Gladbach. The seven-time reigning champions find themselves seventh before hosting SV Werder Bremen today ( Saturday), though they’ll be fairly confident about seeing off the Green-Whites, a side they’ve beaten 20 times in a row in all competitions!

Robert Lewandowski hasn’t gone four Bundesliga games without a goal since autumn 2016, and will be determined to continue his hunt for a fifth top scorer’s cannon against one of his favourite victims; the Pole has struck 16 times in 19 career meetings with Bremen.
RB Leipzig are currently Gladbach’s closest challengers, and have a chance to put the pressure on as they go to Fortuna Düsseldorf on this evening (Saturday). Striker Timo Werner is in the form of his life, having netted nine goals in his last five league games, and confidence won’t be running too high in the Düsseldorf camp
after a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Borussia Dortmund.
Third-placed Dortmund are also in action on Saturday, heading to 1. FSV Mainz 05. With Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus bang in form – both players collected a brace last weekend – Lucien Favre’s side should have too much firepower for the 13th-placed 05ers.
FC Schalke 04’s five-match unbeaten streak came to an end at Bayer 04 Leverkusen last weekend, so the fourth-placed Royal Blues will be trying to bounce back at home to Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. The Eagles have only picked up a point in four outings, and aren’t much enjoying their travels this season: five of their six away games have ended in defeat.
As for Leverkusen, they’ll be hoping Kai Havertz can celebrate his 100th Bundesliga game (aged just 20!) by inspiring them to a third straight league victory away to struggling 1. FC Koln. The Billy Goats slipped to the foot of the table after last week’s 2-0 defeat at 1. FC Union Berlin.
Union have made an impressive start to their maiden Bundesliga campaign, and will find themselves closer to the European places than the relegation zone if they get the better of fellow promoted side SC Paderborn 07 on today (Saturday).
The other capital club, Hertha Berlin, are still chasing their first win under new coach Jurgen Klinsmann as they entertain the in-form SC Freiburg, who are flying high in fifth.
