Burnley Look To Add Defender

Burnley are reportedly interested in trying to sign Rapid Vienna’s Belgian left-back Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo this summer. The 23-year-old, who is a cousin of Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku, is being strongly tipped to join Sean Dyche’s men as they search for extra cover at left-back.

Stephen Ward was let go on the expiration of his contract, meaning Charlie Taylor is the only senior option in that position. Bolingoli-Mbombo, who joined Rapid Vienna from Club Brugge in 2017 and has two more years left on his current contract, could be available for as little as £3million.

It is a move that might be seen as a surprise given the recent comments from Dyche that he is looking to continue favouring the British market, but the scouting team has been extended under the guidance of technical director Mike Rigg and they may start to scour Europe for talent. Bolingoli-Mbombo has Champions League experience with Club Brugge and has also figured in the Europa League with Rapid Vienna.
