Confederation of African Football  (CAF) has named Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi Man of the Match, after helping Kaizer Chiefs qualify for their first ever Champions League final, Completesports.com reports.

CAF made the announcement in a statement on their verified Twitter handle on Sunday.

Akpeyi returned from a head injury to give a five star performance as, Kaizer Chiefs held visiting Wydad AC to a goalless draw and qualify 1-0 on aggregate for the final.

In the votes that was casted by fans, Akpeyi polled 55 per cent to emerge to clinch the award.

His teammate Erick Mathoho was second with 38 per cent while Wydad’s duo of Mohammed Ounnajem and Achraf Dari were third and fourth with five and two per cent respectively.

And commenting on the award CAF who published a short video of Akpeyi in action against Wydad, wrote:”Daniel Akpeyi was voted the TotalEnergies Man of the Match from Kaizer Chiefs’ vs Wydad A C clash.”

Saturday’s goalless draw means  Akpeyi is yet to concede a goal in the CAF Champions League this season (6 games – 8 hours and 11 minutes of football).

He’s the only keeper in the entire competition to have played more than 90 minutes and not conceded at least once.

Can we give this guy some accolades???? He deserves it!!!! I mean, no be all the time we we go dy castigate him bcs of his mistakes. He deserves our praise here honestly. Let’s show him that we wish him well and not bad hence our constructive criticisms most times which seem to be making him better by the day. The rejected stone could still be the corner stone. Ref Iheanacho et al. Make we no forget. Nice one Akpeyi, keep it up. You are doing well. More better days ahead of you I pray! Just keep working hard and believing in ursef.

Akpeyi may be the man that lot of SE fans love to dislike, but honestly he keeps showing us why Rohr will always want to have him in the SE,at least at club level.

As at now, he has proved to remain in the league of SE’s top three goal keepers , together with Okoye & Uzoho.

We await the exploits of Ezenwa and/or Noble against Mexico to see if they truly deserve a place in that top three.

However, if I’m in Rohr’s shoes, I will rather have in my list of three an Akpeyi who has proved himself at CAF Champions league level in recent time than indulge in a game of chances with the others.

Can we just take a few minutes to give this guy a standing ovation. Whether we like him or not, the young man is flying Nigeria’s flag high on the continent. Or when last did any Nigerian goalkeeper go 8 hours and 11 minutes in football without conceding.

If Akpeyi gets another SE call up….he has earned it.

Daniel Akpeyi is really doing well… Considering his form, he deserves to be recalled back to Super Eagles if we must be fair… I do not want to believe Okoye and Uzoho are doing better than him at the moment…

  • E clear for una eye abi . Make anybody no praise him . Flashback read our previous comments during the last Afcon you will see what Bill said about Daniel

  • I never doubted Akpeyi’s goalkeeping credentials for one minute. But his demeanor will always alienate him from the affection of many Super Eagles fans. However, as the moon retains her nature though darkness spreads itself before her face as a curtain, so Akpeyi’s cultured goalkeeping skills and attributes continue to shine through despite his funny facial affects and occasional comical moments.

No wonder Oga Rohr still in charge of the Super Eagles till today.

No wonder the gaffer still wanted Ighalo back into the team.

No wonder Super Eagles always shaking under Oga Rohr.

Uzoho that never tested against the best teams manned the post without fear against Argentina while Akpeyi that have been with the team looks lost against Argentina and he was the reason Algeria knocked out Nigeria during the Afcon in Egypt. So, why clamoring for the goalie again?

Because Akpeyi is yet to concede a goal, he deserves a call from our world class coach?

Simple arithmetic. Remove T from Taribo and the answer will be Aribo.

Meaning, Super Eagles can do without Akpeyi, Ighalo, Mr. Gernot Rohr and Mr. Agu.

No doubt Ighalo did well during his time in the national team and we love him.

We have the players available for selections but the people around our team have no ideas and the dream of winning trophies.

However, I now understand the reasons why Oga Rohr followers still want Oga Rohr to stay with the team.

You have so many average people with Super Eagles and you are expecting good result?

Most of you are watching Euro cup of Nations now and loving for you are watching, if they are doing what most of you people do with the Super Eagles by lying and deceiving ourselves, will you be enjoying their matches today?

Confusion every where. So, we don’t have good goalies in Nigeria and abroad that better than the ones we have presently?

I am here to open your eyes. This is why Oga Rohr and Mr. Amaju have to leave so that the new coach can work freely and select the best for Nigeria to represent our dear nation.

What Akpeyi have left over to offer the national team? Absolutely nothing.

Ighalo the wise man have decided not to come back into Oga Rohr Super Eagles and we patriotic Nigerians appreciate his efforts.

So therefore, I appreciate Akpeyi and his achievements so far in South Africa and may he continue to progress.

In terms of Nigerian football, I think Akpeyi did his part and it is time for him to enjoy his time in South Africa. He should stay away from Super Eagles.

Congratulations to you Akpeyi. God bless Nigeria!!!

Remove T from Taribo and the answer will be Aribo…..on a thread that is talking about Akpeyi and his record of clean sheets in the CAF Champions league.

No wonder your brain is inverted……I can imagine that was the kind of arithmetics you where taught in your school that has turned you to what you are.
