Casillas Suffers New Suspected Heart Attack

Legendary Real Madrid and Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas has suffered a new suspected heart attack that landed him in the emergency room.

Casillas, 39, was reportedly playing paddle tennis with some of his friends when he felt a sharp pain in his chest, according to numerous Spanish media outlets including El Mundo.

The 2010 World Cup winner was quickly taken to the emergency room on April 28 but the news is only just being reported now in Spain.

According to Hello! magazine, he noted that his heart was beating considerably faster too. He was taken to the Quironsalud Madrid University Hospital in the Spanish town of Pozuelo de Alarcon, on the outskirts of the capital Madrid.

As reports El Mundo, he was informed on Thursday morning, just three days shy of the second anniversary of the first myocardial infarction that he suffered during a training session with FC Porto on 1st May 2019, that the incident had not been a second heart attack.

But it is still currently unclear what caused the chest pains.

Casillas shared a photo with his 16.8 million followers on Instagram shortly after the scare and captioned it: “Live today, tomorrow we will see.”

At the time of writing, it had received over 363,000 likes. Sara Carbonero, his ex-wife, despite them divorcing on 12th March 2021, also commented on the photograph with a heart emoji and an infinity emoji.

Casillas retired from playing just over a year after his first scare at Porto.
