Chelsea legend Ashley Cole has officially left his role as an assistant coach for the England Under-21 team to focus on his career as a club manager.
Cole spent five years in the Football Association coaching setup and worked alongside manager Lee Carsley to help the Young Lions win back-to-back European Under-21 Championships in 2023 and 2025.

He has held assistant coaching roles at Everton, Birmingham City, and Chelsea’s academy.
Reacting to the development, Carsley said the 45-year-old Cole, who retired from playing in 2019 before going into coaching, had a “positive, inspirational impact on his players”.
“I want to pay tribute to Ashley who played a major part in our two Euro wins and also had a key role in the current campaign with his tactical and technical knowledge.
“As well as being an important part of our coaching team, he also had a positive, inspirational impact on the players given his own elite experience.

“I am certain he will have even more success in his coaching career whatever the future holds.”
He briefly served as head coach of Italian Serie B club Cesena earlier in the year before stepping down.
