Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has made two changes to his side for today’s (Wednesday) 2019 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal clash against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, with Samuel Chukwueze and Jamilu Collins starting Completesports.com reports.
Left-back Jamilu Collins will make his debut appearance in the competition with Torino of Italy new signing Ola Aina dropping to the bench.
Aina started all of Nigeria’s previous four games in the competition but may have lost his place in the starting line-up after a not too impressive win against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the second round.
Young winger, Samuel Chukwueze who takes the place of Moses Simon will start his second game of the competition.
Chukwueze started the side’s opening game against the Swallows of Burundi.
Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi retain his position in goal with the trio of Chidozie Awaziem, Kenneth Omeruo and William Troost-Ekong joining Collins in the defence.
The trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo and Alex Iwobi will as usual line up in midfield.
Competition’s joint top scorer, Odion Ighalo will lead the attack and will be flanked by Chukwueze and vice-captain Ahmed Musa.

It’s a good line up. Akpeyi, please calm down and avoid unnecessary panic. Ceteris paribus, we shall overcome.
I love the line up!
And people say this coach is not a good coach… He picks the right and best boys for each game
S africa wil defend throughout d game. Eagles ve to allow dem to do some playing too. To win d game. Use toitorse brain for dem.
Sure good line up. It’s all about who needs the win more. Any team that wants victory more will be more aggressive and determined. I also Paul onuachi will not come in at all. For the few times he played in this competition he been busy running aimlessly and falling down. No impact. May GOD ALMIGHTY help us to overcome SA with good game and result.
Nice line up. VAMOS ARRIBA SUPEREAGLES!!!
Nice lineup.I wish the super eagles all the best..I know we gonna celebrate at the end of 90min.God bless Nigeria.
The Line up Is Fantastic But In Everything, What Will Be Wil….l
The Line up Is Fantastic But In Everything, What Will Be Wil…. The Winner Has Already Been Known
I think what SA will do today is to attack the build up from the midfield. So Etebo and Ndidi should expect to get hacked all through the game. They will try to cut flows to Iwobi or Ighalo. So Ighalo need to compete for those second balls and hold the ball up well for people to join in
Starting line up looks good, but I would have loved to start Henry and Victor and let Ighalo and Musa come in the second half. Chukwueze and henry will give a sharp attack and then Victor can locate the goals But in all God will give us victory. I predict a 3: 1 score line in favour of Super eagles.
Line up good however I wish ola was used as right back ahead of awaziem whose crazy laugh after howler makes no sense to me. Akpeyi God be with you this time around!
This is the only negative in the side. Aina is a natural right back. Playing a central defender as right back amay come back to bite us in the rear.
you are very right Mr. Chima Ola is more versatile than Awaziem
Right decision but why Akpeyi? Coach Rohr and coach Agu will be responsible for any mistake from the keeper.
However, I would like to see Osemeh and Onyekuru in the second half for tactical reasons. Their Services are needed in this game.
God have answered South Africans. They prayed Akpeyi should man the post today. I blamed our coaches for this. Good luck Super Eagles. God bless Nigeria!!!
Oh wise and noble one. We marvel at your wisdom and knowledge.
I can see that slowly but surely Dr Drey and Ayphilly are starting to see things your way.
It was just a matter of time really. Before they were in darkness, now they have seen the light.
Omo9ja for president.
I don’t think so
Udah i have a feeling you are mocking omo9ja. If so please stop its not fair!
As far as my as that number 9 ransey will not play the match i am not afraid of south africa today. Men that guy ransey is a nightmare to our defenders. I dont like akpeyi for this match and kalu should have at list play at right back in this match. Just a feeling. Congratulations ahead! Up eagls
Good luck Super Eagles!
Go for a win!
Akpeyi should watch out for long range shots from the South Africans. Therefore he should calm down and not be under any pressure.
May the best team win.
One love Africa.
Well, I want to first see the colour of our Jersey before predicting
Lol.
I hope its not the bad luck Jersey!!
Lol… Fingers crossed
Hahahaha we are the home team , therefore is the Christmas Jersey we will wear today , Bafana will be smoked clean today !!..I predict 3 nil!
This’s a serious gamble by the coach
I agree
Leggo super eagles. Fly like the eagles you are. Goodluck.
Fingers crossed too! Aina has been one of the top performers of this tournament. Awaziem is not a natural right back!
Balogun should have been brought in to replace Ekong to stabilize the defence.
Balogun is better than Ekong agreed
Why Awaziem ahead of Aina .. up Eagles
Nice line up. See u guys after the match with a bottle of cold beer!!!
I’m not the coach, but I feel Aina should have taken the place of Awaziem in the starting 11. Chigozie is very clumsy in tackles and what he offers going forward is nothing to be compared to that of Aina. But I’m hopeful. Eagles will carry the day.
One major blunder in this line up might be dropping Aina to the bench for Awaziem. Aina should have been moved to the right back position because he has been one of the most consistent and dependable eagles in this tournament so far. I really hope I am wrong. Secondly, South Africans have psychological edge over Akpeyi. Once they see him in goal they seem to have their confidence upsurged. I really hope Akpeyi will live up to the trust bestowed on him today. Whichever direction the game goes, I am proudly a SE’s fan.
Akpeyi will use this chance to take back what he lost just like Ighalo did after the world cup but he has to be consistent and not blow cold again!
