Samuel Chukwueze hopes to make impact in the Super Eagles like his role models, John Mikel Obi and Ahmed Musa, reports Completesports.com.
Chukwueze, 20, enjoyed a fine season in the Spanish top flight with Villarreal and is in line to appear in his first senior tournament with the Super Eagles at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The young winger who impressed on his debut for the Super Eagles in the friendly against the Cranes of Uganda last year named Mikel and Musa as two players he looked up while honing up his skills in the game.
”When I was young, I used to watch John Mikel Obi and Ahmed Musa, especially during the 2010 and 2014 World Cups in South Africa and Brazil. They always motivate me,” Chukwueze told a press conference at the team’s Golden Tulip Hotel camp on Thursday.
”Now it’s a dream come true for me. They always motivate me to keep working hard so that I can reach my potential.”
The former Nigeria youth international has been linked with a move away from Villarreal this summer with Spanish giants Barcelona and newly crowned European champions Liverpool reported to be among his suitors.
Chukwueze however remains noncommittal on the his next career switch.
“I’m still a Villarreal player. I still have a contract with them. I don’t want to discuss anything about new club,” he stated.
Chukwueze will hope to make his second appearance for the Super Eagles when they take on the Warriors of Zimbabwe in a friendly encounter at the Stephen Keshi Stadium on Saturday.
