Chukwueze’s Two Wonder Goals Helps Villarreal To First LaLiga Win At Real Madrid In Five Years

Two brilliant strikes from Samuel Chukwueze saw Villarreal beat Real Madrid 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu in LaLiga on Saturday.

The last time Villarreal beat Madrid in the league at the Bernabeu was 13 January 2018, when the Yellow Submarine secured a 1-0 win.

Also it is Villarreal’s second ever win at the iconic home of the league champions.

Chukwueze bagged his third goal against Madrid this season (two in LaLiga and one in Copa Del Rey).

The Super Eagles forward is the second
Villarreal player to score a brace in LaLiga at the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Madrid, after Diego Forlán in May 2006.

The defeat is a huge blow to Madrid’s title hopes as they (On 59 points) are now 12 points behind leaders Barcelona.

For Villarreal, they move up to fifth place on 47 points and just four points off fourth spot.

Madrid took the lead in the 16th minute following an own goal by Pau Torres.

Chukwueze drew Villarreal level on 39 minutes. He received a pass inside the box, beat Nacho with a body swerve before slotting past Thibaut Courtois.

Three minutes into the second half Vinicius Junior made it 2-1 to Madrid but Morales equalised for Villarreal on 70 minutes.

And in the 80th minute Chukwueze sealed the win for Villarreal, as he curled the ball from the edge of the box into the far top corner.

And in France, Terem Moffi fired blanks as Nice lost 2-0 at home to Paris Saint-Germain.

Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos were the scorers for PSG who (69 points) open a six points gap on Lens.

Yaw, is Mohammed Kidus any better? Lolzzzz

  • Chukwueze is world class and criminally underrated……The manner in which chukwueze breezed past Nacho for the first goal as if he was not even there at the first place is simply amazing……His pace and movement was way above Nacho’s level…… chukwueze’s second goal caught everyone off guard include the real Madrid goalkeeper……Setien has really done wonders on chukwueze and he is a joy to watch.

  • Chukwueze + CONSISTENCY = Arjen Robben.

    QED.

As a defender playing against Chuks, you have two challenges to overcome:
    1) His pace.
    2) His ability on his left foot.
If you can match his pace, the next thing to do is to stop him as much as possible from using his left foot. Defenders who can do both have the upper hand against Chuks. We’ve seen this on several occasions in the past.
When Chuks receives the ball, a defender of average intelligence already knows his next move, and at the highest level of football, when your opponent can predict your next move with high accuracy, that is a huge disadvantage for you!
Now, imagine a Chuks who can use his right foot. That changes the situation completely. Uncertainty becomes a weapon for Chuks, as defenders are unable to predict his next move when he gets the ball. This will make Chuks almost unstoppable.

    Great performance Chuks! Great Goals!
I love the 3rd goal, more of such goals man…. Be a terror anywhere near the 18yard.
I hope SE wingers (Simon, Lookman, etc) equally work on this curly R2 skills. It pays alot only if they can master the art.

For the next 3 months, Chuks should remain on the training pitch after every training session, and spend an extra 30 mins to 1 hour just working on shooting and crossing with his right foot.
After 3 months, the difference will be clearer than 7up. Chuks will transition from good to great.

You are absolutely correct. Even when he dribble to his right side, he has no confidence using his right foot to cross or shoot.

        Thanks Mercy.
As our people say, “ADVICE NO BE CURSE”.
It’s up to him to do what it is needed to take his game to the next level.

Thumbs up Sisterwoman Mercy. Chukwueze relies too much on one foot.
        Heaven bless him.

The goals were very classic. Both goals will definitely be in contention for the goal of the season award. That said I’m begining to see that Samu is not a winger per se and strives better in a 4;3:3 formation. Nigeria indeed have talents but no coach to harness them. Onuachu or Osihmen will always find it very hard to score playing along side Samu because he is not a winger who will always lay that final pass to the striker but will strife to score himself as he sees himself has a striker operating from the left wing . Though I stand to be corrected. I call on our chief analysts Deo and Pompei as well as Omo9ja to throw more light on this.
