City Target Atleti Star

Manchester City have identified Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez as the man they would eventually like to replace Fernandinho with.

City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted that moves are being made behind the scenes to draft in another midfielder as the clock ticks on Fernandinho’s time at the club.

A number of names continue to be mentioned, but reports over the weekend suggested that Niguez is edging towards the top of Guardiola’s summer shopping list.

The Spain international is a similar player to Fernandinho and following some outstanding performances for the La Liga side, has convinced Guardiola he could do a job in the City side moving forward.

The transfer fee could be a problem though as the player is said to have a £130million release clause in his contract, which could be too big even for a club with City’s resources.

The Blues have already refused to pay Wolves £100million for Ruben Neves and have proven they will not be held to ransom by clubs looking to make a huge profit.
