Collins: I’m Happy To Play, Win My First AFCON Finals Match

Jamilu Collins is relishing making his AFCON finals debut for the Super Eagles at Egypt 2019 in Wednesday’s 2-1 quarterfinal win against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, Completesports.com reports.

The SC Paderborn of Germany defender picked up an injury in training which forced him to miss Nigeria’s previous four games in the competition.

Collins was however handed his first start of the competition in the quarterfinal victory against the South Africans at the Cairo International Stadium.

He put up an impressive performance in the game, now can’t hide his joy at playing his first AFCON finals game.

“I’m excited to have played my first game in this competition. The injury was a tough one for me to take, but I kept working hard and thank God I am fully fit now, “Collins told Completesports.com.

“I am also happy that we won the game against South Africa. It was a tough game for us and that’s because it was a game between two good teams.

“For me, I feel as strong as before, and I’m eagerly looking forward to our semifinal game.”

I was initially angry when I saw this dude’s name on the team shit in place of Aina. I thought having been injured, and having not featured in the tournament, he would struggle to match up with the tempo of the competition and probably not last 90 mins. But surprisingly, he showed no sign of not being in sync and could have lasted 2hrs on the pitch. An he did a yeoman’s job putting Percy tau in his back pocket for most of the game.

That is why sometimes, its plain over-zealousness querying the coach’s selections. He sees his players on daily basis…..works with them on daily basis…maps out his strategies and knows more than any of us, who and who is fitting to start.

    Weldone Collins…I wish y’all goodluck.

We apply patience, wisdom and common sense in trying to get into the mind of the gaffer to understand why he is/has taken some of the decisions he takes, look at how things pan out afterwards to see if the end has justified the means.
We see, we judge, we infer, before we open our mouths to talk…!

The only player I still don’t understand there Is Shehu Abdullahi, I just thank God for Awaziem. Shehu I still don’t know how he  got into this squad list. There were great players we dropped. Ajayi is far better than Shehu….

Dem don come again…! “…Ajayi is FAR better than shehu…” as if he has seen ajayi play rightback before.
Pls where have you been since 2016 Olympics when Shehu started playing RB for Nigeria..?

      How about John Ogu ?

  • Our home and away jerseys are similar to Algeria – green and white. I wonder which team will be wearing white on Sunday and who will be on dorning green. Nigeria’s current version of white (home jersey) is the all-favourite feathery light green used in the last match. I wish Algeria wears their normal green and the SE maintain the lucky charm jersey. Although it must be said, we beat Libya 4-3 away in the dark green jersey. Any other competitive match we won in our dark green jersey?

    • Bomboy 5 years ago

Maybe we would have scored more against Libya with the white jerseys.

I didn’t care much about the jerseys until the Cameroon game. We wore the white and won.

Now I have begun to wonder if it is true that the dark green is somewhat jinxed.

We defeated Algeria 3-1 at home with the green Jersey, same Jersey when we humiliated Cameroon 4-0. It was a false superstition

  • Kai,was an absolute rock on the left. You played like you didn’t miss any match.
What’s the difference between Ola and James? Hardly any. This is the kind of competition I admire.
I think Ola is slightly better in attacking areas. The dribble, that uncanny vision Ola has to make a dangerous pass or pullout or even score,James doesn’t have it.
But defensively James seems slightly better, dogged in the tackle and he’s no slacker going forward too.
Was like the epic battle between Marcelo and Concentrao for the Madrid left back spot.In matches were Mou doesn’t want to take chances defending,he plays Concentrao.I liked Concentrao’s doggedness then.

For me,I love them stylish with flair. You just look at them and you know, there’s something about them,”magic” can happen; you know Danny Rose, Marcelo and ofcourse Ola.
Great players vieing for our LB slot abeg.
