Congo Invitational Tourney: Yobo, Not Eguavoen Should Handle Home-Based Eagles -Ikpeba

Former Nigerian forward, Victor Ikpeba has kicked against the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to allow the Technical Director, Austin Eguavoen to handle the Home-Based Eagles’ trip to Congo in an invitational tournament.

Ikpeba made this known during Monday Football Night Programme on Supersports, where he said that the NFF should have saddled the Super Eagles assistant coach, Joseph Yobo with the responsibility of handling the team.

He also called on the need for Gernot Rohr to play a key part in monitoring the progress of the team and not just staying off from the team.

“I don’t think Egueavoen should have been saddled with the responsibility of handling the Super Eagles team B that will face Congo. I think the Super Eagles assistant coach should have been giving the task to get the job done and not him. Maybe, Gernot Rohr should have supervised the whole affairs while Joseph Yobo should be the main man.”

Recall that last week, the NFF released names of 26 players that will represent Nigeria at the tournament. Host nation DR Congo, Nigeria, Congo Brazzaville and Sierra Leone will take part in the competition.

Na so we see am o. Yobo should be in charge of the home based team. Lol.

  • Ikpeba is right. The team should have been handled by Joseph Yobo. Afterall, I heard on this forum that NFF has made it possible for him to obtain CAF A license. However this shows the NFF is not having confidence on their annoited one. Also, it’s disheartening that 9 days to the World Cup Qualifiers the NFF is yet to release the official list of Super Eagles. I hope they have not lost the list in transit because that’s their culture. Please @ Dr Drey and other colleagues on this forum, publish the names of those players on yellow cards because we are dealing with incompetent, unserious, lazy NFF who are found of forgetting vital documents to avoid the last World Cup qualifiers in 2018 against Algeria. Please let help them to do their jobs right because this is the society we have found ourselves.

You’ve said it all. NFF are bunch of incompetent sets of people.

Yobo has no coaching Bach, so he has no business there. If he goes what if in future CAF use that against the NFF, NFF shouldn’t have Yobo in the affairs but Nepotism.

Ikpeba you guys should be running NFF and LMC. You guys should step away from the sidelines, get in there and save Nigerian football from those incompetent bunch that are hell bent on ruining the only thing that brings joy to Nigeria and Nigerians.

I personally think that Mr. Yobo should be in charge of Super Eagles Team B because of his experience as a former captain of Team A. He played very well during his tenure in 2014 Nations Cup in which Nigeria won the Cup.
