Consistent Aubameyang Deserves Monthly Award

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been named Premier League Player of the Month for September as the Arsenal star continues to impress.

Aubameyang beat off competition from seven other players to take September’s individual prize after scoring five goals in four games for the Gunners.

The Gabon international won the award, coming out on top after a vote by the public, the 20 club captains and a panel of football experts in what is the latest achievement from a player who does not always seem to get the recognition he deserves.

Since moving to the Emirates from Borussia Dortmund, he’s scored a hugely-impressive 49 goals in all competitions and his seven so far from eight games in the current campaign means he’s second in the Premier League top goalscorer chart, only one behind Sergio Aguero and Tammy Abraham.

Aubameyang’s consistency is there for all to see but he does not always get mentioned in the same breath as Aguero or even forwards currently beneath him in the scoring charts, like Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane and Tottenham star Harry Kane.

But the 30-year-old surely can do more to persuade anyone still questioning him and his ability as he continues to take the Premier League by storm.

There were plenty who worried when he arrived in north London that he wouldn’t be able to replicate his Dortmund form in England but he’s demonstrated brilliantly how good he is, proving himself to be a natural goalscorer that Unai Emery can rely on.

He shared the Golden Boot last season with 22 league goals, hit another nine in Europe and the cups, and he also chipped in with eight assists across the campaign as he showed he can be a creator in the final third too.

Unlike summer club-record signing Nicolas Pepe, Aubameyang hit the ground running at the Emirates and hasn’t looked back since with the £57million the Gunners paid out at the time now looking like a very wise purchase.

However, despite all that there remains a feeling Aubameyang is not thought of as being quite in the top bracket of world strikers and maybe he has been judged harshly playing in an Arsenal side that has not always sparkled under Emery and failed to make the top four last season.

If he maintains his goalscoring form – which looks likely considering how things have gone so far – any lingering doubters will have to reassess their poor judgement.
