Coronavirus: Sunshine Stars Extend Resumption Date Indefinitely

Following the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the management of Sunshine Stars Football Club has extended the club’s resumption date indefinitely.

Sunshine stars went on two weeks break when the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF and the League Management Company (LMC) announced the suspension of football and Nigeria league for two weeks due to the recorded index case of Covid-19 in Nigeria.

As the deadly disease continued to spread in Nigeria and federal government on Tuesday announced total lock down in two states (Lagos and Ogun) as well as Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for two weeks and advised citizens to maintain social distancing and practice stay-at-home directive. This means, no club can train during g this few days.

In a statement by the team management on Thursday announcing the postponement, it reads: “The management (of Sunshine Stars FC) have reviewed the initial two weeks break given to Sunshine Stars and now approved the indefinite extension of the recess.

However, the club promised to re-evaluate the situation and get back to the players and officials on decisions taken when necessary.

“The Club will re-evaluate the decision when neccessary, and in relation with developments around the COVID-19 Global Emergency.”

The Nigeria Professional Football League went on break after match-day 25, leaving the remaining 13 games to end the season hanging in a balance.
