Crocked Bell To Miss Start Of County Season

Veteran batsman Ian Bell will miss the start of the Championship season with Warwickshire after undergoing surgery on his toe. The former England ace picked up the injury while training with Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League.

The 36-year-old tore a ligament after being struck on the foot and, although there is no time frame for his recovery, first-team coach Jim Troughton admits it will not be a quick fix. “Ian will immediately start his rehabilitation programme,” he said.

“There are always unknowns with surgery, but Ian has always kept his fitness at the top level throughout his career.” Bell was instrumental in helping the Edgbaston outfit achieve promotion to Division One last year, averaging 54.05 with five centuries as they secured the Division two title.

He has not played for England since 2015 but has always stated that he would return to the international game if called upon.
