Dart Looking Sharp In US

Harriet Dart has battled her way through qualifying to seal a berth in the main draw of the US Open for the first time. The 23-year-old saw off China’s Wang Xiyu 6-2 5-7 6-3 on Friday, having already overcome American duo Jamie Loeb and Hailey Baptiste in qualifying, to earn a passage to her third Grand Slam of the season.

Dart, ranked 140 in the world, made it through to the last 32 at Wimbledon but exited the Australian Open in the first round at the start of the year. She will face Romania’s Ana Bogdan in the opening round at Flushing Meadows before likely going up against 22nd seed Patra Martic if she wins.

Britain will have five representatives at the final Grand Slam of the 2019 campaign with Johanna Konta also in action on Monday. Konta will make her bow on Court number 17 against Russia’s Daria Kasatkina as she looks to improve on last season’s first-round exit.

Meanwhile, Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund will fly the British flag in the men’s draw.
