Day of Reckoning: Parker Upsets Wilder With Unanimous Decision Win

Joseph Parker stunned Deontay Wilder in their heavyweight contest in Riyadh Saudi Arabia.

The New Zealander secured a unanimous victory after 12 rounds.

Wilder, who was having his first bout of the year was not at his best all through.

Parker won all the judges cards; 118-111, 118-110 and 120-108.

The former WBO champion claimed he trained hard for the victory.

“Dangerous fight, a tough fight but we trained very hard for this. People had other plans, but this is God’s plan,” Parker declared,”he was quoted Sky Sports.

“Today we got the win and Merry Christmas to us!

“Deontay’s got a new coach and maybe he’s applying the new things he’s working on, but maybe inactivity played a part.”

Wilder praised his opponent and claimed he is not dwelling too much on the defeat.

“I did [think he did enough to win] but my timing was off a little bit,” he said.

“He [Parker] did a great job in avoiding a lot of my punches. We make no excuses, it was a good fight and we move onto the next thing.”

I use to think wilder will take good care of Joshua, but this fight tought me otherwise, bcos i remembered joshua won this guy, i think Joshua and wilder fight is really unpredetable, meanwhile i am beginning to believe in this parker, this guy can shock zilinski and furry, he has been one of my favourite fighters in past decades, he is very fast and skillfull, determined and offensively dominates who ever he comes against, i have watched him bit the mexican ruiz, and wilder, if he trains harder he will bit zilinski and furry, he can be the nest world champion

    @Collins

I have to say this without bias, there’s no current heavyweight better than AJ apart from Usyk. Not even Fury. Usyk is just simply more technical. He reads the game.
    Simply put, styles make fight.
AJ is simply a progressive fighter, willing to learn and adapt. Far from a one thrick pony like Wilder, whose only strength is in his right punch. Avoid that and Deontay is done with.

Hrgovic, Zhang are names I could give a shout out based on thier grit but both aren’t on AJ’s level.

It’s a pity people lost believe in AJ after his shocking lost to Ruiz forgetting all time greats like Ali, Tyson, Lennox; all had shortcomings in Norton(Ali), Douglas (Tyson), Rahman(Lennox).

In boxing,it is the comeback and longevity that really matters . Cause in a game like the heavyweight, it is difficult to avoid a loss. It happens. By a lucky punch, lack of preparation, underestimation ,conditioning or mental state.

If AJ sustains his momentum, he would be champion again. He just to keep hungry and keep working.
Congrats to Joshua. Love his attitude.
