De Bruyne To Hand Guardiola A Boost

Kevin De Bruyne is set to hand Pep Guardiola a massive boost by returning to light training duties on Wednesday.

It was feared the Manchester City midfielder could miss the remainder of the season after suffering a muscle injury during the recent home win over Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the Belgium international has made steady progress and City’s medical staff now want to see how he responds to stepping up his intensity this week. De Bruyne was coming back to his best form when he suffered his latest setback, having previously missed a total of 20 weeks of the season following two knee injuries.

The 27-year-old schemer is expected to start running again and is desperate to play his part, with the Citizens guaranteed to retain the Premier League title if they win their final two games.

Guardiola’s team host Leicester City next Monday night before they travel on the final day to relegation-threatened Brighton & Hove Albion. There is also the small matter of an FA Cup final to come against Watford on May 18 although City do not want to put any undue pressure on De Bruyne at this stage.
