Deeney Issues Gracia Backing

Watford skipper Troy Deeney has backed manager Javi Gracia to be the man to turn things around at Vicarage Road after a tough start to the season. The Hornets are sitting rock bottom of the table with just one point from their first four games of the season.

Results have been in stark contrast to those of last season, as Watford managed to reach the FA Cup final while also finishing in 11th place in the Premier League, with 16 points between themselves and the drop.

Pressure has been starting to mount on the shoulders of Gracia but captain Deeney feels the manager will turn things around after a sluggish start to the campaign. “The manager is a big boy, he knows what he’s doing – it’s just part and parcel of the game,” Deeney told Sky Sports News.

“People are always going to question the manager if we’ve lost a few games. It doesn’t just happen at Watford, it happens everywhere. “But the high turnover of managers at Watford was four or five years ago. Everyone thinks every year we change the manager and get a new one.

We are trying to settle down. And naturally the clubs will always put the club first. We appreciate that and we will keep going with what we are doing.”

Things won’t get an easier for Watford after the international break as they prepare to host Unai Emery’s Arsenal at Vicarage Road.

Following the arrival of the Gunners on September 15, the Hornets must travel to the home of Premier League champions Manchester City in their following Premier League game, before Wolves then head to Vicarage Road.

Watford will be hoping they can soon call upon the services of talisman Deeney, who is currently out through injury.
The veteran forward required minor surgery on his knee towards the end of last month and was expected to miss up to six matches for the Hornets.
