James DeGale is considering his future in professional boxing after losing to Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday.
The 33-year-old admitted prior to Saturday’s contest at London’s O2 Arena that he could hang up his gloves if the result didn’t go his way.
Eubank Jr looked far too comfortable and he forced a count in round two after landing a stinging left hook.
DeGale came through another count in the 10th following a close-range left hook while he never posed a serious threat throughout the bout.
The judges were left to make the final call and all three handed it to Eubank Jr, with the cards reading 114-112 115-112 117-109.
Two-time world champion DeGale insists he has achieved everything he wanted to in his career but won’t rush into a decision over his future.
“I’m going to go back, talk to my team and talk to my family,” DeGale said.
“I’ve been to the heights of boxing, I’ve won an Olympic gold medal, won the world title twice, made history and I’ve boxed the best around the world. I’ve left my mark in boxing.”
