Uncapped opener Joe Denly has been called up for England’s second Test against West Indies in place of the dropped Keaton Jennings.
The selectors have opted to leave out 26-year-old Jennings given that he has averaged 25.86 in 16 Tests and that includes an unbeaten 146 against Sri Lanka in November.
His form in the 381-run first Test defeat in Barbados was disappointing as he scored 17 and 14 respectively in his two innings and that has resulted in Denly getting an opportunity to shine.
The Kent right-hander will look to take his chance in the remaining two Tests in the Caribbean in the hope he can remain in the side for the Ashes this summer.
On the 32-year-old’s inclusion, captain Joe Root said: “It gives Joe an opportunity. “It’s disappointing for Keaton, he’s done some excellent things and he will continue to work on developing his game and be a big part of this squad.”
Stuart Broad and Jack Leach are also in contention to feature when the second Test gets underway at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua on Thursday after leg-spinner Adil Rashid flew home to be with his wife for the impending birth of their child.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
