Dennis’ Goal Drought Continues, Ndidi, Awoniyi In Action As Leicester Thrash Forest To Secure First Win Of Season

Wilfred Ndidi featured while Kelechi Iheanacho was benched as Leicester City secured their first win in the Premier League this season with a 4-0 win against visiting Nottingham Forest on Monday night.

Taiwo Awoniyi also featured for struggling Forest and was replaced by Emmanuel Dennis in the 62nd minute.

Dennis is yet to open his account for Forest after five Premier League appearances.

Before the start of the second half Ndidi went off and was replaced by Boubakary Soumare.

Going into Monday’s game Leicester had lost their last six league fixtures while Forest had suffered defeats in their last four.

And moments after Awoniyi had hit the post for Forest, it was Leicester who took the lead in the 25th minute through James Maddison.

Jesse Lingard mis-hit a clearance and the ball fell to Maddison, whose shot deflected off Scott McKenna to beat Dean Henderson.

And two minutes later it was 2-0 as Harvey Barnes cut in off the left and bent a shot beyond Henderson into the far corner.

Leicester got their third 10 minutes before half-time thanks to Maddison whose curled free-kick beat a stationary Henderson in goal for Forest.

Zambian forward Patson Daka, who replaced Vardy just after the hour, got Leicester’s fourth in the 73rd minute, using a neat flick to turn Maddison’s cross into the net to put the result beyond doubt.

Leicester moved out of the bottom of the log to 19th in four points and Forest drop to bottom on four points.

  • By the end of the season we shall see where this forest is taking awoniyi to.

When you gain promotion from the lower league….You buy players to strengthen weak areas….You just don’t overhaul the team to the tune of almost 70 percent…You have to consider that the cohesion that got you promotion will be completely lost except you have megabucks to buy top top players. This is the mistake that Nottingham Forest made.

Exactly nobody wins or looses a
the entire sport of football rather you play to stay relevant and to do that requires patience, understanding, proper planning and vision(be it short term or long term) and Nottingham forest with their endless pursuit of short term success will end up being the next yoyo club in England.

The clash of the relegation titans has ended in favor of the Foxes, their first win of the season.
After collecting 6-2 from Spurs before the international break, Leicester are on the road to recovery as they pulled out the wooden spoon and administered a 4 nil spanking on the hapless Nottingham Nothings, sorry, Forest. Leicester thus switched places with Forest at the rear end of the league table, climbing a spot ahead to 19th, and leaving Forest rock bottom.
Leicester played today as if their lives depended on it. The lads likely saved Rodgers’ job with this display. Rodgers is not off the hook though. Not just yet. The Foxes need to rack up a few more wins to get the gaffer out of the woods. This though is a welcome step in the right direction.
Forest on the other hand played a match to forget. Error strewn, mediocre display. The first goal came from a comedic error from Lingard, and it went downhill from there. A relegation contender need not make the job of beating them easier for the opponent by gifting them with errors, the way Forest did today. The way things are going, it looks like Forest are headed right back from whence they came, the championship.
The coach and the players have a battle on their hands in their quest to stay up.

Brilliant comment there as usual @POMPEI!

My angst is against STEVE COOPER abi na COPPEL. Same mistakes SCOT PARKER did last season and which he repeated this current one leading to his sack is what characterizes NF’s season; wrong use and mismanagement of PERSONNEL!

It’s only a clueless coach that will not know what to do with DENNIS, AWONIYI and LINGARD. Always substituting one of the trio for another or starting only one of them per time etc

A good coach will play the 3 of them
I recalled same date befel BOURNEMOUTH under PARKER where he kept benching his two top scorers and assists kings in th Championship; SOLANKE and BILLINGS while featuring some mediocre players. Ever since he got the boot, the new gaffer has trusted the duo and both have contributed to about 6 goals and assists in about 5 matches!

Play DENNIS on the wings, start AWONIYI as pointsman and LINGARD as your AM and see NF crawl out of that bottom of the table!

Thanks, Mahmud. I think a case can be made especially for Dennis. He was lively when he was subbed on, and he provided a peach of a cross that Gibbs-White almost nodded home. It’s strange that Cooper continues to leave Dennis out of his starting line up.

          Allah bless you.
Your analysis are always one of the best on this platform!

@GREENTURF, who pays record transfer fee on players and leave them on the bench? What is JOHNSON’S statistics in the last 3 years compared to DENNIS?? When did DENNIS become a striker that a coach will be alternating him with AWONIYI?? How many goals or assists has JOHNSON??

Why spend £20m on him if you have no space for him in your team?? COOPER will soon get the sack and a new manager who knows what he’s doing will probably take over!

      • Greenturf 2 years ago

Where would you play workaholic and skilful Johnson then?Because he has been phenomenal and one of forest’s outstanding footballer.
Dennis is not better than Johnson nor Lingard that is why his place has been on the bench.
Probably he will get to fight for a strikers position with Awoniyi who didn’t do too badly against Leicester, wish one of his chances had gone in.

  • Saying with ordinary mouth as if it is that easy. Telling him to use Awoniyi and Dennis because they are your players not mindful of the tactics the coach want to use. I think he is the one training them everyday and he knows their capabilities. More over the little chances Dennis have gotten he did not cover himself in glory.

Every keen follower of this forum knows you reason with your anus coupled with your pathetic grammar! I remember warning you some time to stay clear of my comments because you tend to be uncouth and rude.

You can see that @GREENTURF disagreed with my position on DENNIS by advancing his own reasons rather than INSULT or disrespect or denigrate me which is your stock in trade… something that made DEO to put you in your rightful place here sometime ago too!

We SEE always how COACHES who ARE TRAINING PLAYERS always do leave important players out or get their tactics wrong and after getting the boot, their replacements perform wonders. Are you new to following football??

Every one knows that DENNIS is more of a winger while AWONIYI is an out and out striker…so, hey; they can play together with devastating effect. I don’t care what or who STEVE COOPER sees in training…we saw LAMPS get sacked and TUCHEL changed personnel and delivered Champions League

We saw LAMPS take over from BENITEZ and some bench warmers are getting minutes

We are seeing ARTETA use some players not favoured by EMERY

We are seeing ETH benching CR7 and CASEMIRO while starting some mediocre MCTOMINAY…he will soon get fired if he doesn’t change

Tactics wise Steve Cooper is not in the same league with Brendan Rodgers if not for the odd staleness and a lack of investment, this match will not be billed as a relegation six pointer BUT Steve has a huge job on his hands especially when they brought in 21 players, that’s crazy and all of a sudden a possession based team in the championship is now unrecognizable because of that transfer window, that he can’t integrate the likes of Taiwo, Brennan,Morgan,Dennis etc is because he still experimenting with this team and that is a dangerous game to play as a coach especially in the PL,unfortunately it’s his head that will roll and not the clueless owner who wants to secure PL status by all means.

          Brilliantly surmised @CODEX!

The last time I saw a clubside sign an almost entire Squad is NIHERIAN PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE….lol!
