Dessers Celebrates Return To Super Eagles

Feyenoord striker Cyriel Dessers has expressed his delight following his recall to the Super Eagles ahead of the doubleheader friendly games with Mexico and Ecuador.

On Tuesday, a 30-man squad was unveiled for both friendly games which will take place in the United States.

And Dessers was one of the nine forwards invited for the fixtures.

His only cap for the Eagles was on 13 October 2020 in an international friendly game against Tunisia which ended 1-1.

And reacting to his recall, the 27-year-old striker wrote on his Twitter handle:“We’re back, let’s gooo🦅🇳🇬“

It has been a productive loan spell for Dessers at Feyernoord thanks to his exploits in front of goal.

Dessers has scored 19 goals provided four assists in all competitions for Feyernoord.

In the Eredivisie, Desser has scored eight goals made two assists in 26 appearances.

It is in the newly formed Europa Conference League that Dessers has been prolific, scoring 10 goals two assists after 12 games.

His impressive performance for the Dutch side contributed to their qualification to the final where they will face AS Roma.

During the 2013–14 season, a 19-year-old Dessers stood out in the reserves and youth competitions for OH Leuven, scoring over 20 goals.

With OHL in danger of relegation and several first team strikers either out of shape, injured or suspended, he was given his first minutes in the first team in a 3–2 away loss against Mons.

In April 2014, Dessers signed a two-year deal with Lokeren.

In July 2016, he signed with NAC Breda on a contract until summer 2019, of Dutch second-tier Eerste divisie. On 28 May 2017, they were promoted to the Eredivisie, after a 1–4 victory over N.E.C., in which Dessers scored three goals. He finished the season with 29 goals in 40 matches.

In July 2017, Dessers moved to FC Utrecht, agreeing a contract for three years with an option for an additional year. On 11 August 2017, he scored the first goal in the competition.

After the 2019–20 Eredivisie season was abandoned, Dessers was jointly awarded the Top Goalscorer award alongside Steven Berghuis with fifteen goals each.

On 30 June 2020, Dessers moved to Genk on a four-year deal.

On 31 August 2021, Dessers returned to the Netherlands to join Feyenoord on loan with an option to buy. He scored his first goal for the club on 19 September, scoring Feyenoord’s fourth goal in a 0–4 away win against PSV.

  • Chaii…Home grown Nigerian guy can never love his country like this. Being ignored many tumes, a typical Naija Man will choose Belgium instead with world cup opportunity. Even player like Balogun is even more Nigerian than this guy, his father is Belgian. Yet, still celebrating call up for mere friendlies.
Small time, Amokachi and others will come out to be saying foreign borns are not taking Nigeria seriously..when a player like Iwobi is always among the players that arrive Camp early even when he was one of the regulars under Rohr.
Dessers, I pray you don’t regret playing for us in the future but have this in mind.
We Nigerians love you. Forget about our handlers.

Well stated my brother , I shade tears when the carpenter and headless coach Equavoen refused to call up the guy , simply because “he has not watched him play live “…the stupid man with no sense of responsibility, now where is Equavoen and where is Desser?…that guy could have saved his job , yet he was blind and inclined to bribery in order to ignore him !!…Desser don’t worry w, we Nigerians love you and you have proved our corrupt officials wrong by being focused and the best top striker around .Super Eagles is a brand , you will still achieve your objectives, just win the next Afcon for us and you have written your name in GOLD!!

This is the kind of Loyalty that we crave for from our players. I like the quality of the home based players selected plus Alhassan, Tijani and Dessers but to exclude Kelechi Iheanacho is worrisome. I hope he for excused same as Osigoal because Nacho’s goal scoring left touch is unmatchable.

    • JimmyBall 2 years ago

…@Chima E Samuels, permit me to ask you what’s special about Kelechi Iheanacho, the same Kelechi we have seen millions of times? Same kelechi we saw in Russia 2018 where our attack had no bite? Same kelechi who was selecting leg to play with in Kumasi? Please let’s be frank, he is not a better goalscorer than Dessers who is about to get a good runout, and if it’s about midfield, Kelechi Iheanacho is a minus… those are the weak players that could do nothing against Ghana. I am also not happy about Shehu and Musa continuing in Super Eagles! Those two are surplus to requirement but quota system is not ending anytime soon… Alhassan and Sadiq merit their callups… I think that should be enough for pride in the North to be assuaged! Musa is a greedy greedy gold-toothed mallam who wants to continue dimming opportunities for youngsters… he will soon face disgrace and be forced to retire like Ighalo! Instead of Shehu in Cyprus, Obinna Nwobodo already playing for Cincinnati FC should have been called up as he is in US already!

Comparing Iheanacho’s goalscoring IQ to Dessers means you’re highly daft and bereft of everything in football. Dessers is nowhere near Iheanacho in terms of shooting accuracy – take that to the bank. He may have other better qualities but definitely not finishing.

When did Iheanacho select leg in Kumasi? Lol. You always come here to spew your hateful and tribal trash lol. Was Iheanacho not the person who created the best chance for Moses Simon? That was the best chance of the two legs! How many shots on target did Nigeria record in Abuja in front of capacity crowd? With all the Dennis and other headless-chicken players, Nigeria could only score through a non-existent and controversial penalty.

Iheanacho has virtually scored against every top goalkeeper in England, your wretched hate means nothing.

        • Golden Child 2 years ago

@John-I, I beg to defer. How many goals has Iheanacho scored this season? Dessers has scored 20 goals this season and half of those goals were as result of coming from the bench.

That my friend is a phenomenal scoring rate. Go and check his goal scoring form when he was with Heracles. Some players just have that instinct when it involves scoring and he has it. He might not be the most technical player but he knows where the goal is.

Players like Chicarito@Manchester United, Inzaghi@AC Milan, Van Nisterooy@Manchester United, Prime Ighalo etc.

To add to that, he also uses both feet, amazing striker. That alone gives him an advantage ahead of Iheanacho. Having stated this, Iheanacho is also a very good player.

        • JimmyBall 2 years ago

@John-I… You fat toad. Get out of here… I can’t debate football with your likes… I have played this game myself. There is nothing special about Iheanacho… those sort of players have stayed too long on Super Eagles with average returns. Let others who are equally worthy get a look-in… Goalscoring IQ. Where was that against Ghana and Tunisia?

          • John-I 2 years ago

I have no problems with Dessers invitation but the guy is constantly on Iheanacho and Chukwueze’s case – from his phone or laptop. If Dessers is his preferred player, he can celebrate his invitation without constantly hating someone else. This guy also thinks Chukwueze (who has scored against Barca and Bayern Munich) is not a good player based on his daft football knowledge.

          • John-I 2 years ago

Taaaa Sharap there, anu mmiri. You don play football before? Laptop coach. Iheanacho has 12 goals already for National team as a false9, I’m sure he borrowed or selected your legs to score those goals lol

  • Peterson Obibi 2 years ago

Osimhen is too much for the friendly. Coach Yusuf will at the end of the day revert back to Amoo, Simon and Odion inclusion to make a more formidable team. I understand he wants to try some new players but I don’t see them differently from what we saw of Bassey, Dennis and Lookman in the playoffs.

  • Jimmyball. It’s erond to say about iheanacho. Very wrong. Have you checked his stats for eagles. Who is close. I don’t think anyone is close.

The problem is not iheanacho. Rhe problem is our clueless handlers..

    1. Iheanacho is. Great finisher.

    2. But he is lazy. Not useful when he is off the ball

    3. So if you want to use him, use him to start only if you have no better option and when ndidi is on the field. Ndidi does the job of two people on the field.

    4. But eguavon used to start when ndid was not in the field and when we have a blank midfield.

    5. We should play yo his strength. He is ine if the nest passer of the balland a great finisher. So we need him. So play to his strength.

    6. It’s too early to shout the orause of deserr. Ibhave stopped doing that. Let him show it in Africa and on the field. We made noise about Dennis and lookman. They could not score a single goal against Ghana.

    7. Fornmow iheanacho is greater than desser in eagkes shirt. Let’s wait and see.

    • Mahmud Shuaib 2 years ago

Unfortunately the problem with IHEANACHO is the best position to play him. That’s simple truth!

IHEANACHO can only thrive in a team that plays traditional 4-4-2. And his best position today is as a No 9 in a TRADITION 4-4-2!

He doesn’t Hussle, he loses the ball too often, his first touch always let’s him down.

When he was younger, he was a no 10 or no8 or support striker. Today he can’t play that.

Yes I agree with CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES that he’s a prolific striker but that’s when your best strikers are not in form or in town!

@JOHN-1 even though I do not completely agree with JIMMYBALL on IHEANACHO, one thing I need you to understand is he’s no tribal bigot. Infact from your utterances, you are the TRIBAL BIGOT here.

JIMMYBALL just like OMO9JA, DR DREY (yes, I don’t always see eye to eye with him), POMPEI, GREENTURF, DEO, DESTAR, GOLDEN CHILD, IGBAKUN (IGNATIUS) ABO are never tribalistic at all at all!

JIMMYBALL is Idoma from Benue but always talks about NWOBODO (IGBO), JUNIOR AJAYI (YORUBA) etc.

      Pls do not forget that.

IHEANACHO as a pointsman in a classic 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 or 4-3+2-1 can never bench DESSERS, AWONIYI, SADIQ, OSIMHEN….he can never

But if you play 3-5-2….he will excel

If you play 4-4-2…he will excel.

The challenge is as players are concerned and available to SE today, IHEANACHO can only start from the bench.

      He slows build ups
      He doesn’t press from front
      He doesn’t track back

But capable of producing a sublime pass or finish

Unfortunately for national team football where matches are few and no margins for error or you are out of a competition, no national team coach worth his onions will start NACHO ahead of out and out strikers with the style of play of today’s football.

      • JimmyBall 2 years ago

@Mahmud Shuaib… Whenever you post I get into trouble with lots of folks here especially the Rohr Godson(Lol… Hahaha) you and I know too well thinking @JimmyBall and @Mahmud Shuaib are same person.

I love Sadiq Umar, Zaidu and Alhassan, I love Ndidi, Awaziem, I love Olayinka(like mad… of his ball hustle) yet some folks here will call me tribal bigot, meanwhile Moses Simon my tribal guy to be is just a club player… I prefer Olayinka on the left to Simon.

I have always maintained this views here yet some people like @Dr.Drey will clone new alias and become @John-I, @Lanre and so on just to insult.

My thing is… Let’s look at other deserving players, we have had same set of players for over five years who ended up losing WCQ ticket to Ghana.

I am tired of seeing average overhyped players who cant use both feet. I want to see others who also Nigerians out there doing well. We need decisive players not the ones who can use the other leg if the ball drops there with a good open chance…

Even goalkeeper have learnt to play with both feet, yet we continue to parade one dimensional one – legged players who when cornered to defended from their heavy leg because clueless… Make person hear word.

It’s just time up for Musa and Shehu but they continue to get called up while others are just ignored. We need new kinds of energy in that Super Eagles team now… Maybe Ahmed Musa wants to break Hossam Hassan of Egypt record!

    • John-I 2 years ago

You dey mind the tribal nuisance? Every time Iheanacho this, Iheanacho that. Iheanacho has 12 goals already for national team. Watch the quality of his goals on Youtube, they’re mostly goals scored due to technique rather than physicality. Yet one laptop ex-footballer go dey yan dust all the time mtcheew.

I live in Ghana. You need to see how highly Ghanaian Ex-Footballers/analyst rate Iheanacho each time Nigeria is playing. They see him as someone who could score out of nothing due to his level of shooting technique. No wonder dey dumped Nigeria out of World!

Top 5 Iheanacho goals for Super Eagles. Notice the technique and calmness? This is minus that strike against Egypt!

Unfortunately, this guy will have to wait at least another 4 years to play at a world cup, all thanks to Mr. No Nonsense with beautiful football and best coach of Afcon 2022 first round. lol

Don’t mind that foolish coach called Equavoen, just wasted the guys best years !!..how I hate that man with passion !!!..even when we know we don’t have much striking power at Afcon , yet he refused to invite him , now we have seen the results, Nigeria booted out of Afcon and World cup !! …I know he is a juju man , make him no near that NFF again for life !!… useless coach !!

We missed world cup because of Eguaveon ineptitude… He is not a good man. Invited one set of players for AFCON and audaciously dropped Awoniyi, Olayinka and Ejuke when he announced world cup list. I think the nightmare of what he did to Nigerians will haunt him forever…

Welcome back, NIGERIA’S MOST WANTED CYRIEL DESSERS.
Nigerians love you like crazy. Go on boy, make us proud!

  • Edoman 2 years ago

Ihanachor is one the greatest players to have played for Nigeria. Any National coach who overlook him does so at his peril.

    • JimmyBall 2 years ago

Let the likes of Iheanacho take some leave and allow us see others a bit.. We can’t be moving in circles with same players with weak mentality forever… all of a sudden the Ighalo we warned them against and they still smuggled back to get some some dollars off him is no longer the messiah… Nigerian administrators and confusion!

  • Omo9ja 2 years ago

This is a great achievement for me omo9ja. Whenever Nigerians call Cyriel Dessers’s name, omo9ja’s name will come to mind. God, I thank you ooo.

Since have been scouting for Super Eagles, I have never been struggling like this to have Dessers in the Super Eagles.

Those coaches in charge of Super Eagles then were too stubborn sha lol. Starting from Oga Rohr and Mr. Eguavoen.

My people, learn from both men.

When the two were in power, we begged them, we begged NFF too to considered Dessers but they misused power and where are they today?

Oga Rohr have been shamefully fired. Mr. Eguavoen have been disgraced while Amaju Pinnick and his colleagues are facing their punishment from FIFA now. Hmm. Such is life.

The federal government should making sure Amaju and other oppressors in the NFF pay Oga Rohr from their pockets. This will be sweet if President Buhari can make the order.

That will send a strong warning to incoming NFF members.

The only worry am having is in the Super Eagles is our midfield. Super Eagles need a creative midfielder. If the next coach doesn’t solve the problem, the problem of not having a creative midfielder will render our strikers useless.

No matter how fantastic our strikers are, they might not be scoring goals at the national team. That is my observation.

Am still wondering why Ovia Ejaria has not been considered for that role instead of waiting for Eze to reconsider Nigeria. Fingers crossed.

Congratulations to my lovely unique, world class, world best, tested and trusted, energetic striker and reliable Cyriel Kolawole Dessers.

Am proud of we patriotic Nigerians that stood by me when the going was though but today, we are all happy as Nigerians to see our lovely Dessers back in the Super Eagles. Together we can make Nigeria great again. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

It would have been ludicrous and hypocritical for anybody to expect Rohr to invite Dressers to SE in 2020 when the lad was on the bench week in and week out. Even the man benching him at Genk (Onuachu) was finding game time scarce in the SE. How many matches did Dressers play for Genk before going on loan to Feyenoord. Someone like you would have accused Rohr of taking bribes if he had done that. Blame Egunavoen who claimed that he had not seen Dressers closely even when the young man was painting Holland and Europe with goals starting from the latter part of 2021 till date. You claim that Rohr was disgraced yet he is having the last laugh here. He will be collecting millions of naira for doing nothing for the past 5 months. What a fantastic way of being disgraced!

      • Omo9ja 2 years ago

Stop telling lies here. You can’t lie to me like this kę.

“It would have been ludicrous and hypocritical for anybody to expect Rohr to invite Dressers to SE in 2020 when the lad was on the bench week in and week out”.

Go and watch Dessers video clips on YouTube when he was at Genk.

He was scoring goals whenever he was called upon at Genk. Onuachu was Genk main striker then.

Not that Dessers was poor or out of form but he was totally new to the team at Genk. Not that Onuachu was better than Dessers at Genk then but Onuachu has been doing wonderfully well before Dessers came in and I don’t think it’s sound well to bench Onuachu for Dessers.

I will blame Oga Rohr and coach Eguavoen for Cyriel Dessers inability to play under them.

Please gentleman, I can’t take this lamba no more. The lie is getting out of hand.

Dessers will keep proving his class to Oga Rohr and coach Eguavoen. That alone is enough for me. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

        • MuYiwa 2 years ago

So how many minutes altogether did he play and how many goals did he score those times to earn him a SE call-up even when the man benching him at the club level was also chopping bench in the Eagle’s squad?
